Greeting to the Dominance of Dragons and other creatures of Alfandra.

I come to this place with two gifts, interesting questions and the
desire to learn and listen.

I would like to hear your stories, what thought processes and events
led each of you to the conclusion that you are a dragon? How has that
evolved over time? What resources (ie. books, movies, website, etc...)
do you think are important for any new comer to know.

There is a lot more my curiosity wishes me to ask, but I think this is
a good start.

Thank You.

Otherkin is a good lump-sum name for us that none of us that I know of
will get upset at. Some also call us Furries or Scalies, but some of us
(as well as the outside world) tend to link those terms to erotic
connotations and, thus, dislike said terms.

> I come to this place with two gifts, interesting questions and the
> desire to learn and listen.

All questions are interesting, it's the answers that I find can get less
than interesting. The desire to learn and listen is never a bad thing
-- provided you listen to and learn from everything. It's when you get
biased that this becomes less of a gift.

> I would like to hear your stories, what thought processes and events
> led each of you to the conclusion that you are a dragon?

For me, it was about when my host reached the age of 15 (it's 30 now).
That's when things seemed to click. Add to that some memories of things
that I know I've never experienced in this host, some good, some
horrible..... And once things clicked into "dragon", I never even
second guessed myself, and I've never looked back.

> How has that evolved over time?

Actually, I purchased a past life regression self-hypnosis tape, which
helped me a lot. It actually gave me concrete evidence of who I am. It
might seem odd, seeing as I'm still on my first life. While others
might have ended their time in their lives as dragons, and become
humans, I was torn from my trueform, yet both my "soul", for lack of a
better term, and my trueform are still alive.

However, for all that, a past life regression session does indeed work
to find out things that happened not only in an earlier life, but things
that happened earlier in your life, or so I've found.

> What resources (ie. books, movies, website, etc...) do you think are
> important for any new comer to know.

Well, that's a tough one. I don't really have any resources I rely on.
Mostly because I don't have the time, but partly because a lot of them
aren't really useful to me. I think you'll have to talk to others about
this one.

> There is a lot more my curiosity wishes me to ask, but I think this is

Anything is a good start. Well, except for coming in denouncing us all
as lunatics, I guess.....

This actually covers one of my next questions, so thanks on that. I
actually am reasonable familiar with what the Otherkin and Furry
communities are, but I felt it was time to stop observing and start
participating, get it straight from the Dragons mouth, so to speak.

I try to always accept people for what they are (I don't always have
to agree with it) because I have no right to tell people what to think
if I'm going to ask for the same in return.

At least you come knowing the name of the land.

I've forgotten most of the details at this point (I did write down at the time
my thoughts, so it's not all lost forever), but simply, I loved dragons and
was increasingly wanting to read more and more stories about them as
protagonists. Eventually I ran across a thing written by KaniS and it
resonated with how I felt. Basically it was him trying to express his desire
to be a dragon (again, I think). The kind of story I would have written.

From there I found www.otherkin.net and other places like Baxil's articles.

And of course, I found my way Here.

Two of life's most important gifts, if you ask me.

I'm not sure exactly. I've always known that I wasn't quite like the
others, always felt a sort of kinship with lions and other predators.
I've also always felt sad for the "evil" dragons in fairy tales.
About two years ago, I was sitting, letting my mind wander, I don't
remember what I was thinking, when it all suddenly 'clicked'. The two
pieces just came together, almost on their own.

As for resources, I can't think of any, sorry.

> There is a lot more my curiosity wishes me to ask, but I think this is

I'll be happy to answer any question I can, and so I'm sure will the
others Here.

Oh, and one more thing. We have a tradition around here of offering
welcoming gifts to newcomers. Here's my contribution. :)

Before I decided to dive in I thought it best to come prepared, read
through the brief history by ExistingPhantom and even jumped back and
read some the original Usenet posts at the dawn of alt.fan.dragons.

I seem to be on a somewhat similar path at the moment, my interest in
dragons keeps growing and embedding itself in my day to day life. I
started roaming the net in search of interesting information which led
me to the Otherkin page on Wikipedia. From that point the questions
has nagged on my brain on and off for over a year. Although I expect
my viewpoint to keep changing as I go along, as it stands now, even if
I was a dragon in a past life I don't think it's worth it (personal)
to chase after something that distant. My soul and body exist in this
time and place for a unique experience, but that doesn't mean I
shouldn't explore and understand where these feeling are coming from.
The is something very powerful about being a dragon, even if it just
in a metaphorical sense.

To me dragons have such an inescapable beauty that I can't see myself
without some connection to them. Plus I've developed this nasty habit
of growling and imaging myself with wings...

wow, that's a hard one to answer because i ask myself that same thing
from time to time...
it just fits for me.
I am a bit of a spiritual therein..i have a dragon self, almost a
spiritual self image and i have a human self, my current form. we are
one and the same. The dragon in me looks different than the human in
me but we share the same essence.

How i came to know this was a journey that is still going on...always
felt that i was different in someway as a child. when i would see
images of dragons, something inside myself felt that it was somehow
familiar.
as far as books and movies go, The PERN series, the Dragonheart movie,
the Cold fire trilogy (no dragons in it but has a furry in it that i
emphasized with) - those all pulled on some emotional strings inside
me but you must seek your own path...

ask me anything, i will attempt to construct an honest answer.

Well, I'm not your Draconic kind, but I guess my 'discovery' was generally
the same as most. At first it was just a basic inkling that there /was/
something different between others and myself, and this gradually developed
over time to the point where, in the last 3 years or so, I became fully
aware of my own nature. Of course, it would have been quite obvious when I
sobbed uncontrollably at the end of 'The Last Unicorn'... : )

*sigh* I love that movie so much...

Er, oh yeah, the topic. And it's one of my favorites, too. ^_~
For as long as I can remember, I've had an affinity towards non-human
critters, real and 'mythological', that went beyond 'affinity' almost
to obsession. When I was still small enough that I could do it
without hurting my knees, I swear I spent more time galloping about
like a horse than I did on my feet. Sometimes I still have doubts
about what is more 'me', the horse or the dragon, but the dragon
always wins. Like others here, I've always loved dragons. Combined
with that, I was and am completely obsessed with flying, and not in an
airplane. I used to stand in the farthest corner of my backyard and
stair at the sky above my house, pretending that I was up there. I
still do that sort of this, but now I especially like to imagine
playing around cloud formations. ^_^
I had never really thought about /being/ a dragon, though like a lot
of people, I was quite uncomfortable with being JUST human, and always
looking for something more. One day as I surfed the internet, I came
across a website about dragon-souled, as I like to call us, and
thought, quite calmly, 'oh, that's what I am,' and from there I found
a link to an EZboard branch of Here and began to integrate myself into
the community.
I have developed quite a bit over time in ways that I've really
enjoyed. I first described myself as green and rather average
looking, but at a certain point that happened to allign with my human
body reaching physical maturity, my color changed to gold and I
discovered that I had an elimental orientation - storm, and psychic
orientations - empathy and dream control. I even learned to fly in a
series of dreams, starting with just jumping long distances or gliding
while keeping my human appearance, and eventually achieving true
flight and transformation into dragon form.
Like others, I have a sensitivity to where my wings, horns and tail
should be and a tendency to growl, snap my teeth or claw at something
or someone (sometimes I even grow my fingernails out and sharpen
them), and I move a little oddly sometimes, the most noticeable
example being a habit to hold me arms up near my chest with the elbows
and wrists crooked, kind of like a raptor, which is something I've
been doing since long before I consciously recognized the dragon in
me.

I'm still trying to figure out that equine side. Unlike the predatory
actions that I compared to a wolf before I recognized them as my
draconicy, the horsey aspects don't seem to fit in at all. The
peaceful, shy, serene nature and the longing to run swiftly rather
than fly sometimes balance and sometimes oppose my draconic aspects.
I'm really not quite sure what to do about it right now, except to
just accept both sides and let them work themselves out. But if
anyone has some advice, I'd like to hear it.

Firstly, thanks to all of you for responding, I've learned much from
your musings. Your examples and histories have helped give me a base
line with which I can more objectively analyse myself.

I've loved dragons for a fair amount of time, but started to develop
many of the above traits only after I discovered the Otherkin website.
As I'm still in that point of life were we discovery much about
ourselves I'm unsure as to whether this means I'm just exploring
alternate lifestyles (I'm thinking this is maybe more likely) or
actually am draconic in some manner.

You, sir, have just created a new catagory of voraphile.
There was prey and pred, now there's onlooker.
I'm not a fan of any--though I can make some good jokes (and appreciate good

You strike me as the sort of person that would watch 'Happy Tree Friends and

cartoon bunnies and the like get what's coming to them.

One who likes to eat, or to be eaten by, another. Vore is the act of
eating another creature whole. Real-world vore includes snakes that eat
mice and such, by swallowing them whole.

Voraplilia is the act of swallowing someone else, or being swallowed by
someone else, without being consumed as such. Some use it for <ahem>
pleasure, some don't.

OK, I didn't look, but I'm assuming you're referring to actual people
harming actual animals. I'm going to state right here and now that I don't
approve of mutilating animals, or injuring them in any way. Cartoon
animals, like the Bugs Bunny variety, I do enjoy seeing mutilated, since
they're designed to do so. If I found someone in "real life" doing
anything to an animal, I'd do the same to them, only worse.....

Oh, by no means! Trust me, I'm completely against animal cruelty of any
kind. The show I'm referring to is completely animated AND it's all furry.
No human characters to be seen in any of the episodes, to the est of my
knowledge.

Oh, sorry. I'll stop wearing my duck slippers when badly braiding your
mane.....

A friend of mine is collecting the series.

THE LESSER-KNOWN PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES #10: SIMPLE SIMPLE is an
acronym for Sheer Idiot's Monopurpose Programming Language Environment.
This language, developed at the Hanover College for Technological
Misfits, was designed to make it impossible to write code with errors in
it. The statements are, therefore, confined to BEGIN, END and STOP. No
matter how you arrange the statements, you can't make a syntax error.
Programs written in SIMPLE do nothing useful. Thus they achieve the
results of programs written in other languages without the tedious,
frustrating process of testing and debugging. -- Herd Thinners
