I agree. It seems to subtract from the names when you take out syllables.
If my name were Fistandantilus, I wouldn't want people calling me
Fistantilus.
How do you guys pronounce Astinus and shalafi? I pronounce them "Ust eye
nus" and "shu lah fee."
Neraka... Ner (like Nair) + A (ah) + Ka (like in cous.)

Use Latin pronounciation rules. They always seem to work well with
fantasy names.

Have any of you yaggols realised that you *might* have
different accents? And that this *might* be the reason
you're pronouncing these words differently?
Just a thought.

Yeah, I'm Norwegian so in my mind quite a few of the names are different
than in the minds of English-speaking people. I recently got some of the
audio books for the first time in my life, and I hardly recognized the
names of "Tanis", "Majere" and "Antimodes". :)

i always thought that 'ie' would be pronounced 'ee,' like in 'field' or such
words at that. but most of us just pronounce how we want. :)
Yes, I also pronounce it that way.
>i always pronounced 'skie' as 'skee' (like skiing), but then again, thats

If you think about it, most dragons are named associated with color or
abilities. And also noted KHellendros's belly is SKY blue so that he can blend
in with the sky better (although artwork shows it yellow). Therefore I beleive
that while Skee sounds more appropriate, I beleive Sky is better suited.

Personally, I always pronounced Skie has "skee" as do many readers. As far as
Takhisis, I always pronounced it as "Ta-kiss-is." But, then again, I started
reading Dragonlance when I was in 7th grade, and while that probably isn't the
best source of English knowledge, I guess it just stuck. :)

I have mentioned it before, but as a Norwegian I pronounce many of the
names very differently. I recently heard through the DoWN audio book (I
snatched the last copy of that and DoSD from amazon.co.uk), and many of the
names felt just plain wrong. The narrator said el-is-STAN when I have
always said el-IST-stan, in fact there were lots of places were I put the
pressure on a different syllable. (Such as shi-RAK instead of SHI-rak, as I
always saw it.)
The audio book was quite cool, though. Loved the music. Especially when
Theros says "I give you... THE DRAGONLANCE" TA-DA-DA-RA-TA-DAAAAAA *soaring
music*. Some things I didn't like though, such as the syntesizer effects
when magic was used: "Shirak" booooooooiiiiiiinnnnnnggggwwwwweeeeeeeeeee.
And I absolutely hated the way Tasslehoff sounded. With the nasal,
fast-talking upper-class British English he sounded nothing like a kender,
but exactly like a foppish, noble faggot.
But why isn't it possible to have unabridged DL audio-books? I know plenty
of other audiobooks which are unabridged.

I haven't heard the audio books, but you pronounce exactly as I would.
I again speak swedish, and it close to norweigan.

Hmmmm. I never cared how Peter MacNicols pronouced the names. In my opinion
he's just pronoucing the names in a way he thinks they should be said. It is
after all his take on the Chronicles, (and later Legends). But I must admit, I
like him because he is a superb actor. He read the cgronicles, he plays with
weirdo in GhostBusters II, has a GREAT character in Ally McBeal. As far as I
know, when the audio tapes were made, the actor read the books before his
recording of it simply because he liked the books, which most people sometimes
don't even do. But I have no idea if he actually asked someone at Randomhouse
or TSR for name pronunciation.
Among the TSR people, do you know how/why/when/what circumstances allowed Peter
MacNicols to read the DRagonlance Chronicles and legends?
