A Solamnic Knight Female? Outrage~!

I'm tired of seeing the Solamnic Knights gain such atrocities. First of all,
admitting Tanis Half-Elven into the ranks. As Lord Soth would of said, "In my
day, we wouldn't allow bastard half-elves in the Order."
And women?!?!? It's bad enough there's women driving cars. (well, some. Not
all now.) Moreover, that would be scary to see a chivalrous female. I
understand mercenary chicks in comparison to Kitiara's case. I understand the
Golden General deal. But a Solamnic Knight female. Do you have any idea what
would happen to a lone female in an army of Solamnic males?!?! She would not
be untouched for very long, or maybe the knights consider that 'dishonorable.'
I tried, but I really cannot picture a female along the lines of a knight.
Maybe because I'm so narrow minded. I don't know.

Three guesses, and the first two don't count.

I can. I've had my head pounded by a few.

Yup.

Ah, I see you are taking the stance that the Knights of Solamnia are truly
corrupt. (Or do you have a different definition of Lawful Good or honourable
than I do?)

Female Solamnic knights have been around in small numbers since the War of the
Lance. The *true* outrage is Linsha Majere--the first woman who isn't even a
Solamnian to be admitted into the Orders. (You can read all about her in
"Heroes of Defiance" and "Citadel of Light.")

That's what I'm agreeing on. That's mainly what my point is about.

you didn't say that. you ranted that "women" should not be in the
solamnic orders.

next time state that you didn't agree that someone who isn't solamnic
or has solamnic background becoming a knight is wrong.

Name one place where half-elves ARE welcome. It's part and parcel of being a
half-elf.

These are the Knights of Solamnia we're talking about, not the Marine Corps.
"My honor is my Life" remember? They are always polite and chivalrous to women.
Women in their own ranks makes no difference. A female Knight will get along
just fine.

Well, Linsha's deceased uncles, Tanin and Strum, broke the "non-solamnic"
barrier before she was born when they became Knights.

Linsha is pretty cool. I've always only had a hard time with her and her
brother's names. (Pa)Lin-(U)sha and U(sha)-(Pa)lin. Their parents didn't try
very hard to name them, did they? (:

You are absolutely correct. My memory played tricks on me. She was the first
female to become a Rose knight, at least as far as she or anyone else
remembers. The fact that she wasn't even Solamnian made it an even bigger deal.
I'm getting forgetful in my old age.

Her name actually arose out of a discussion we (Sue Cook, Steven Brown, and I)

I have some advice for you. Why don't you just shut up. Really. So what if I
make a big mistake. Do you not have anything better to do than reply with two
posts bitching and complaining. Why do you do that? Does it make you feel
better wasting time like that? And if you're upset my mistake....get over it.
So like I said, shut up. Most people already discarded the subject or moved on
to something else. Hope you do the same thing.

This flame was unnecessary, and entirely idiotic. Jex, you would do
well to take your own advice, and shut your loud hole up. You came

*cough* wasn't it a Mail SHOVENIST pig? :) 37 Posts guys, *APPLAUD*.
Bickering about spelling, capitalization, sexist remarks regarding a female
knight(who would probably run through any "knight" who should try to do
un-knightly things to her), tarnishing the views of the knighthood, not to
mention smearing the Marines good name(Yes we live with Sexist Men.....AND
WOMEN) where I would sooner trust a Marine I never met with my life than
trust you to give a reliable opinion on a Dragonlance novel, and managed to
throw a bit of well placed, highly intelligent and well though out cuss
words, while managing, in the same light, to create a pile of posts that,
although interesting and entertaining, wasted the space of this newsgroup to
a PRIVATE flame war....clap, clap. In the future, please, for the sake of
those who care, post to eachother.

Spell Check has not been used to show that the English language is not
spelled fenetically and the most probable reason for poor spelling is the
choice not to waste time with frivolous grade school tests, rather to spend
the time doing something productive on a computer which has spell check
readily available.

Grammar Check has not been used because I cannot afford a copy of any
worthwhile word processor.

Run on sentences have not been corrected because I don't really care to
spend the time.

Time has been spent to explain the faults in this post to hopefully detract
as many flammable aspects as possible.

Ah, but you're dodging the point, now, aren't you? How is Joyner's
lack of spelling different from your lack of
capitalization/punctuation?

But to satisfy your curiousity - no, I'm not a girl. I don't consider
myself a prick, either, just because I don't care for sexist folks
much. I do, however, consider sexists to be pricks.

Yes, yes, yes. You're killing me here, you know that? First of all, the
difference between my lack of punctuation and Joyner's lack of spelling is that
I am a lazy bastard and I hatecorrectly punctuating everything. Joyner,
however, just can't spell. Right Joyner?
You (Septentrionalis Ventus or Torvail) on the other hand, write stories. As a

I read DoSF and i dont remember any female knights.
But i mean comon the even let a kender become a knight once, so why not
females, at least they would erase the one bad thing about the Solamnic
Knights, their beards.
I mean it looked cool on Sturm and Gunthar Uth Wistan, but i Huma could do
without and so could Vinas Solamnus.

Myself, I'm not worried about female knights, *after* the War of the
Lance. I feel it would lessen Laurana's achievement in breaking the
chivalric glass ceiling to have others have gone before her, that way
(apart from, of course, the one female knight from the Third Dragon War
who provided the precedent so that Laurana could lead the Knights in the
first place). It's also a pity to directly contradict the original
Chronicles. After the War of the Lance, I'd be happy to see the Knights
learning from the lesson Laurana presented them with. (Although, I'm not
sure of the tense of that last statement.)

If it's the one I think you are referring to, he was only half-kender, and
he was asked to move on before he completed training. He never became a

IIRC, that lovely story, Kender Stew, was also written by Nick
O'Donohoe. He really should be writing more DL material. I remember
him writing Too, Too Solid Flesh for TSR, but recently he's seems to
have had some success with non-TSR fantasy novels.

Get him back into the fold this instant.

I think that Nancy Varian Berberick should get back into the fold. Her
short stories have been of varied quality, but her novel "Stormblade" is
the best non-W&H DL novel out there, IMHO. I was very disappointed when I
found out she wasn't going to write a sequel to it in the Heroes II
series, like Richard Knaak and Michael Williams did.

Absolutely. I've loved Nancy Varian Berberick since I read her short
story Between Lightning and Thunder in Dragon Magazine. This was
before I'd read her Tales stories, so I was pleasantly surprised to
discover those, and Stormblade, afterwards.

She has a story in Relics and Omens, too. I wouldn't know anything
about it tho, not having read any of the review posts here b/c I'm
worried about spoilers. I'll just wait until I get the time to read it
for myself. :)

So, why did Dan Parkinson and not Nancy B. write Stormblade's sequel?
Maybe she had committed to other projects she had to attend to? Maybe
her contract with TSR fell through? Maybe Dan Parkinson said "pretty
please with sugar on top?"

These things are known to happen. I've noticed that Tina Daniell is
the author of The Dark Queen according to the Dragon Mag DL chronology
on TSR's website. I like to speculate that this is an indicator that
Michael Williams had to rush in in order to get the book out to the
announced publishing date. (Remember, TSR was once renowned for their
ability to keep their deadlines and ship on time...)

We could email her and ask.

It is good. I think she captures the spirit of the 5th Age
very well, especially with how the "new age" is forced to adapt
without magic. That's all I can say without going into a spoiler,
except that I agree - she should write more 5A novels.
