This has probably been said but Jim Carrey is hotly tipped to be in the HG2TG
movie. It was in the Express, for anyone that didn't get a copy of the paper
here's what the report said:

Headline * The 70m Carrey-On *
Title * Jim to star in Hollywood film of Hitchhiker's guide to the Galaxy *

BY TOM RAWSTORNE

It started out on a shoestring budget on Radio 4. Now, 20 years later, Scion
classic The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is set to become a 70 million
Hollywood movie starring comic Jim Carrey.

Film insiders believe the huge budget and the presence of Carrey, the world's
highest-paid actor, almost guarantees that the cult show will be a hit and
eaptivate a new generation of fans.

Carrey, star of Ace Ventura and The Mask, will play the alien Ford Prefect with
TV favourite Hugh Laurie as the archetypal Englishman Arthur Dent.

"This is going to be a big budget project," confirmed Douglas Adams yesterday,
the man who wrote The Hitchhikers Guide. "It is going to cost somewhere in the
region of 60 or 70 million. Hugh Laurie was made for the part and Jim Carrey is
also ideal and he is also extremely hot property."

The film is to be made by Walt Disney subsidiary Hollywood Pictures and will be
directed by Jay Roach, who recently made the spy spoof, Austin Powers:
International Man of Mystery.

The studio was prompted to take on the film after the massive success last year
of Men In Black with its comic combination of human and alien life.

Mr Adams plans to spend this summer completing the film's script with a release
date set for the year 2000. He is delighted that the project is heading for the
big screen, 20 years after it first captured the public's imagination.

In 1978 it was an instant success when it was broadcast on Radio 4 as a
six-part series and then topped the book charts the next year.

That was followed by a TV series and further books that included The Restaurant
At The End of The Universe and Life The Universe and Everything.

As a novelist Mr Adams has made millions of pounds, but has twice before failed
to transfer his hit show to the big screen. His
first attempt ended in failure in 1983 after he fell out with his director,
complaining: "I fell foul of all the cliches of Hollywood."

Five years ago he tried again but other commitments blocked the project. This
time he is more hopeful. "I have had so many false starts but this time I am
very very excited by the way it is progressing," he said.

A comic satire, the Hitehhiker's Guide follows the exploits of earthling Arthur
Dent and Ford Prefeet as they tour the universe.

Starting out on the Heart of Gold spaceship they encounter part-time galactic
president Zaphod Beeblebrox, his girlfriend Trillian and Marvin the paranoid
android. They also meet the Vogons, who write the worst poetry in the universe,
and a pair of beings who are searching for the Ultimate Question to Life, the
Universe and Everything.

The answer, incidentally, turns out to be 42.

The pair finish their tour in The Restaurant at the End of the Universe With a
prime view over an exploding world.

Carrey, 36, is currently enjoying rave reviews for his part in The Truman Show,
which has just been released in America.

Meanwhile Laurie, 39, whose comedy career started at Cambridge University, is
best known for the television show Fry and Laurie. "He is good friends with
Douglas Adams and they have met recently," said his spokesman. "Who knows what
they discussed?"

For the last time, DNA himself has confirmed that Jim
Carrey has NOT been casted in the movie.

Very true, but after all DNA's been through with this stupid
rumor, and after all the fan outcries he's heard of,"Please
don't put Carrey in the movie!" It's not likely he will
be in the movie. And I hope he's not, as I'm very
anxious to see it, and he'd ruin it for me.

Have you read about the character Zaphod, Jessica?
He is not for Jim Carrey to play, and neither
is any other character in the trilogy.
Hitchhiker's is not Jim Carrey-esque
humor. Never has been, never will
be. He doesn't belong anywhere near
it. I doubt if he's even heard
of it, and even if he has,
he's not fit to shine Douglas Adams' shoes, much less be in
his movie.

And let me explain something to you. Besides
being a Douglas Adams fan, I'm also a Doctor Who
fan (most DNA fans are, and Hitchhiker's is
required reading for most Doctor Who fans).
In early 1994, they announced a new
series was in negotiations (this was
well before I was on the Internet),
and names like David Hasselhoff,
Dudley Moore, Eric Idle, and John Cleese
were the names I'd heard. None of them
were in the pilot when it actually appeared
two years later. Then, after the movie
aired, I got online and learned none
of these guys were actually considered,
they were just tabloid inventions. I assume
it is the same with Jim Carrey (that when
casting begins, he will not be considered),
as DNA knows his characters well enough to
know which actors belong in it and which actors don't.

Now let's end this Jim Carrey talk before I have a
nervous breakdown, please!

Exactly. I agree with you there, Carrey probably doesn't even have a whelk's chance
in a supernova.

I realize this. When I say "he would work," I mean "work" in the sense that any badly
cast actor would. They might look better in the role they're cast in than in any
other in the particular movie or television series, but they don't ACTUALLY belong in
the thing at all. Like I said, they could do a hell of a lot better.

I misunderstood you. It seemed like you were a fan of his
originally. Sorry about that. Then again, when I
was thirteen, I was a fan of his and Pauly Shore's.
Thankfully, I saw the light in both cases.

There's nothing wrong with clarification, Jessica. That's
why I'm doing it.

I just saw Austin Powers, and I know the guy who directed
that, M. Jay Roach, is also directing Hitchhiker's,
and if I may say so, he'll do a,"Very shagadelic

No he's not. DNA told me in an e-mail that he's
just directing it.

Erm. Doctor Who? I think I've only ever seen one episode and I was disapointed
with that. All I can remeber is a couple of people are trapped in a room (One
of them being Doctor WHo) and then a poor Dalek comes in and gets mugged, if I
rember rightly (Which I probably don't because it was a long time ago). They
climbed into the Daleks suit and shot off. It was terrible.....

Well I'd like to argue that that puts you in the minority and that more
people on this newsgroup who've actually seen it will like it, than
those who've seen it and don't. And besides, I haven't had a good
argument for ages.

I'm pedantic all the time, however, which is what enables me to point
out that the character is called 'The Doctor' and not 'Doctor Who'.

Personally I think you're referring to "The Daleks", episode 3 or
thereabouts. But that would just be sad to suggest.

Yes. But there comes a point in your life when you just have to sod it.

One episode? That would be, what? certainly less than 1% of the
series. Not a particularly good way of judging the series.

Especially if you're going to pick *that* episode.

The first Dalek movie was a remake of "The Daleks".

Actually, that was an error that got printed in one of the first
articles concerning the matter. If you check out TDV (www.tdv.com) for
the official pres release, it has a bit mentioning that DNA is writing
the script and that Roach is just directing.

Motti, DNA is the creator of HGTTG, and he
is also the executive producer and
screenwriter of the film. He
would know if anyone was casted because
*he* would've done the damn casting.

(Note: I wanted to point this out despite the subsequent posts of hey it

Well, sort of. The higher-ups (which includes him as exec producer and
probably more specifically director Jay Roach and producer, um, yeah,
Roger Birnbaum) would likely have some input into the casting, especially
of the main roles and especially if they go for any big names, but if you
look at film credits, there is a credit for casting alone. These people
are some sort of casting experts. (There's also a very specific order the
credits have to be in according to various union rules.)

I find that if you assume any apparent derogatory or inflamatory post is

Sorry to butt in (but then, everybody in here does that ;), but Motti
acctually said that he *does* know what he's talking about. Go back up and
read it again.
Of course, the winky-face is still there.

Well if I may interpret myself, I think that when I said I *do* know what I'm
talking about [other than that being a ridicules statement on itself] was as a
humorous [well I've gotta make do with what I've got] counter weight to my saying
DNA *dosn't*. Also I'm not that good with the nuances of English, but I don't
believe that I used sarcasm, from my learning of the holy scriptures [i.e. "The
wall" by Pink floyd] I always understood that sarcasm was something used by mean
teachers, plus that it is sarcastic to say something like "Oh so that's alright
then" when my house is knocked down and having people named after cars
misunderstand me because they don't have sarcasm where they come from. In short
sarcasm is more a biting kind of remark seldom said in good humour rather said when
one is royally urinated off. On the other hand all my jokes are, naturally,  told
in a mild manner spreading love and understanding between all human beings [except
for bloody red heads of course].
Finally I would like to thank my parents for all they sacrificed so I'll live to
see the day eight people waste their time analysing my every word.... Motti

DNA : "I cannot be a fan as fans are a bunch of idiots who keep bothering me about
42 and dumb stuff like that which they take too seriously and I,
a) Don't bother myself [mostly]
b) Claim that 42 was just a joke."

FAN : "But you posted on alt.fan.douglas-adams which is meant for fans (hence the
name) therefore you cannot be". [ I know it doesn't make any sense but that never
stopped me before]

DNA : "OH I haven't thought of that"  and disappears off usenet in a puff of logic.

"That was easy" says FAN and goes on to prove red wine goes with fish and is laughed

at in all major restaurants.

And to finish it all off "Well that about wraps it up for Douglas Adams". :-)

Why'd I get this post twice? Admittedly it's funny but not the second time
around. Must be AOL.
