Hello everyone,
As you may or may not know, Douglas Adams once made unabridged
recordings of his Hitchhiker books, and I believe the Dirk Gently
books for BBC audio books. I believe these recordings were last
released on CD in around 2000. Now however, they have become very
hard to find.
As a totally blind DNA fan I think this is a tragedy. Nothing
compares to hearing Douglas Adams read his own books, to listen to
those recordings is as good if not better than to listen to the
original radio shows.
I hope that you will agree with me that it is high time these
recordings were once more made available. However, there is a
problem, the recordings were made and are theirfore owned by BBC audio
books, but the unabridged rights to the books now belong to Pan
Mcmillan publishing. I have contacted both of these companies, and it
seems to me that both would be more than willing to make these
recordings available, if only they owned both the recordings and the
rights. It seems to me that surely these two can come to some
settlement that would let us once again be able to hear the great man
read his own works. I also feel that the more fans ask for this, the
more likely it is to happen. Please, if you want to hear these great
readings again, please do petition both the BBC and Pan mcmillan. Let
us be polite, no abuse, no rages, let's just ask them, quietly and
politely. The pen is mightier than the sword.
