Where can I find the Hitchhiker books in DOC format for a Palm Pilot ?
(like to take a few e-books on vacation).
Thanks in advance!

Excuse me for being anti-tech here, but: What's wrong with real books?
They pack into a bag just as well as a Palm Pilot + charger +
accessories + memory cards etc, etc...
And you can read real books without having watery eyes after half an
hour...

I know this seems absolutely ridiculous, but at one time I began
typing up all of the DNA books I had. Then, something horrible
and frightening happened, and I had to start all over again.
Fortunately, I had purchased the Hitchhiker anthology...
I'm up to about the middle of RATEOTU.
Or, you could do the simple thing and go to
http://www.niksula.cs.hut.fi/~mdobruck/hhgttg.html for a guy
who's done the exact same thing (okay, so maybe it's not as
ridiculous as all that). Select the updated texts, save to disk,
and VOILA!

pieceoftheuniverse - but that's cheating. Typing them up has
given me a typing speed of about 75 wpm ... so far.

Random #afda Quote #7: "froup froup froup froup froup froup
froup froup froup froup ..."
- Rasher
Thank you! Since TDV reads this froup, that page will soon be gone. And you
honestly haven't typed it in yourself, right? And you honestly don't think
that guy on the page has, do you? Why don't you just use a scanner? Convert
it to text... a little easier...
Jacob
Your welcome.

Pity. I -love- that page; all too often I find a need for an
exact HHGTG quote, and since my memory isn't what it used to
be...
> And you honestly haven't typed it in yourself, right?
Actually, yes. Beware of boredom -- it makes you do silly
things.
> And you honestly don't think that guy on the page has, do you?
Yes. Hence the "updated" texts. There are spelling mistakes,
improperly indented paragraphs, misplaced quotation marks, etc.
all throughout the originals. From what I understand, even the
original official printings didn't have this many errors. Lord
knows why he keeps his original transcriptions on the site...

The point originally was not to get the books into electronic
form, but to work on my typing skills. Mavis just isn't all that
challenging, and the material is as boring as sterilized dirt.
So why not enjoy what I'm reading as well as boost my typing
speed? Of course, now I'm hooked, and its become one of those
major projects I don't want to let go of. On the up side, I'm up
to 75 wpm according to Mavis...

I remember DNA was into electronic versions of his books even way back in
'94-'95. I am sure you should be able to find versions of his books on CDs
or something.

If you are so inclined, you could contribute to Project Gutenberg
