I feel a little bad about actually going on the list this year, since I'm
already one year late. But then again, there is something to be said for
sending out my Christmas cards in wrong chronological order, so an e-mail
is on the way...

Best,

Which of those two email addresses do you wish the emails sent to?

Both are read on a regulary basis (by me), so it doesn't matter much.

I probably still have enough 42 cent stamps to once again use them for
the entire list when I send out my cards!

The only problem is I might have to be a bit late this time....

Sadly the prompt delivery deadline will whoosh by while I'm on the road. :-(

By "a lot" I simply meant "most of the month until christmas".

Oh, and I also tried to sneak in on the christmas card list :-)

I've sent my info to get on the list and have included a 'care of' line
in my address. The mail lady started freaking out at the strange mail
for a Professor at my address last year. :)

What is the 'prompt delivery deadline' this year? Wait, I bet that info
is on the Internet...yep, there it is, US to Europe 11 December. I
wonder if it is the same going the other way or if the rotation of the
Earth changes it.

I've just spent some time writing out cards for version 1 of the list.

I have stacked, addressed, scrawled, stamped and posted cards- not
neccessarily in that order. One noteworthy, ummmm, note; the screw-job
aftermarket postal place charged me a 34% markup on stamps. Given the
inclement weather on that particular night here in the North Country [1]
I paid the surcharge and promised myself I'd never be suckered by those
wretches again.

So when you get a card from me, please gaze at the stamp and think to
yourself how it is truely lovely and worthy of a monumental mark-up.

[1] - Yes, I realize many (some?) of you find yourself at this moment in
time at a geo-location in space arguably "more North" than me. Feel
free to gafaw &/or snort at my North Country characterization of a place
just above 44 degrees lattitude.

Aftermarket postal place?

Yes, there are places that "front" the post office here in the states,
offering things like packing and shipping "value add" services. Some
even rent mailboxes and most sell stamps. When I've used these places in
the past they made their money on packing materials, stamps were sold at
face-value. The one I went to is a new place I hadn't used before inside
a high brow grocery store and clearly intends to make a little money on
everything.

Ah, interesting.

I can't think of any such services here in the UK. Well, beyond the
selling of stamps (which can be bought many, many places not just post
offices).

Here the only place you can get interesting stamps at cash value is the
post office. Some other places like grocery stores might sell flag
stamps without marking them up, but it's not required. Stamp collectors
will be glad to sell you stamps at MUCH MORE than cash value. Even used
stamps that can't be used for postage, which I find quite funny.
