Rise (and fall): The original Rise Guys are now down to one. Sports 1140
(KHTK AM) announced late Monday that contract negotiations have unraveled
beyond the point of no return with Rise Guys ringleader Whitey Gleason.
Thus, Gleason is off the station's morning show. "I enjoyed working with
Whitey; I wish him well," says Doug Harvill, market manager for KHTK's
corporate parent, Infinity Broadcasting. The Phantom is the lone original
Rise Guy left, as Justin Case was fired by KHTK in October 2003 and
subsequently replaced by Kevin Radich. Gleason was unavailable for comment.
Damn.

From the station that has a director of Internet services and can't even
update the freaking website monthly let alone weekly or heaven forbid
daily - They have absolutely no aptitude for programming inteligently, or
discerning what devoted listeners want. Why let go of the most talented
enertainer that the station has?
Prediction - Monty in the mornings. That guy is a pile of crap. If KHTK
thinks that sticking in a loud mouth who talks just to create controversy
will get ratings they are wrong. I admit I listen to Don and Mike for 40
minutes at lunch just for the train wreck aspect - but since I am a long
time listener to DnM that's my call. The show has degraded, but I have
invested alot of time in it. Throwing away a long time, talented ratings
winner for some unproven jackass is a mistake. Remember - who handled all of
the9-11 coverage at KHTK - who else on staff could have, then or now? Who
ran the Insiders, or jumped back in when they were left without a host?
I don't need KHTK - I listened for the Rise Guys in the morning, when I time
to invest, because I enjoyed that product. That kept me tuned in for the
balance of the day. However now that all of the Kings games are televised -
I just don't need KHTK. They need something more than just the Kings (and I
am a die-hard Kings fan), other wise they are just K-MALOOF.
Where-ever Whitey ends up - thats what I'll listen to - even if it is Air
America.

Michael
That would be a bad idea. Almost as bad as Monty in the Morning!

"Almost"?! Monty's THAT BAD?!?!?!
Michael
He worked for the San Jose Mercury News, and covered bay area sports (as
opposed to San Jose Sporks!)....he quit to join espn, and he writes a weekly
column for page2, which is his normal fair....he's terrible on that show
however....
oPuS
I have to wonder, if Whitey's negotiations had anything to do with Justin
Case's return to the show....being under contract, Whitey just had to bide
his time....and make a grab for creative control.
It doesn't seem like you'd get into that big of a fall out over money or
vacation time.
Of Course Mike Remey is fuckiing tool, that could have something to do with
it.

He's terrible and should be no where near a cracked mike. In the vien of
Mancow (screaming just to scream, even though he's often wrong) create
controversy and talk about it even though it won't ever happen.
When the glimmer twins of Whitey and Coach T were on the insiders, and they
had that special blend of camraderie, that was the best show on the station.
Now, it's a pile of crap. And the sad part is Demski and Davidson are
pretty good and well informed. Monty drags the whole thing down with his
controversy of the week...
Six weeks into the regular football season, Monty is going on about the
Raiders and how they're a special organization who respect their history and
have retired "at least" eight jersey numbers. I dial up the line, get right
through and tell him he's dead wrong, they've never retired and jersey
number. He goes ballastic, calling me ill informed, mistaken, a moron, etc.
But I was right. And he speaks without thinking all the time. And he's
wrong a goodly portion of it...
If Remey make the move, I'll head back to Howard.
And Koz is struggling the last two mornings....
oPuS
They're "advertising" Koz?
Thursday on the Rise Guys show:
...the latest on the Arena Talk with Phil Serna...
...the scoop on the Seattle Sonics with announcer Craig Ehlo...
...all the movie news with Mr. Skin and...
...a report from America's heartlands by Bee columnist Mark
Kreidler...
...all that and Koz too, Thursday on the Rise Guys show
I suspect that this is the end of the Run for the Rise Guys at KHTK -
they'll find something for Radich to do, but I suspect that Phantom's
contract will be up soon too.
Please don't tell me that KHTK has the rights to the Rise Guys name...

I agree that it's the end, and I would wager that we might see The Rise Guys
reappear on KNBR 680 with Whitey, Justin and The Phantom....
The Rise Guys always win in the end.
oPuS
>Nah, they don't. The Rise Guys came over from 98 rock in 1999...and if i
>recall they were TRGuys on 93 Rock....
Well, it looks like KHTK is aiming to replace TRG with a solo-hosted
sporks show. This ad was posted on a radio jobs site...it doesn't
look like they're looking for a TRG "replacement":
