Yeah, and how stupid are those kids, anyhow? The thing starts with
the dad talking about home improvement, yaddy, yaddy... Then the dad
says "no, not that kind of home improvement, this kind" and he HOLDS
UP THE TAPE! Just seconds later the dummy kids say "where did you get
these ideas?" and the dad says "well, you know" (implying some
original thought. Then the mom interrupts with "he got it from
this..." and HOLDS UP THE SAME TAPE!!!
Good promo for help for the learning disabled, huh?

Sorry, but the Mormons already have your name and address. Because of
their interest in Geneology, I suspect that they have a pretty good
computer system and database, even for us gentiles.

What a great idea! Send it to a PO box, then let's wait and see if
they show up at the post office. Imagine, postal workers vs.
religious "nuts." I wonder what the morning line would be on that in
Vegas ;-) ?
If its a morning meeting, I'll take the religious nuts, as they are all
fired up and ready to go. If the 'meeting' is in the afternoon, then I
want the postal workers, because by then, they are all wired up.

Actually, I am going to beg to differ here... I have moved into a
heavily
Morman (LDS) area, and I have developed a great respect for the LDS
members, they are quiet, hardworking, and very community active.

Not to stir the 'religious' pot here, but the Mormans are more of a cult.
True religions follow the teachings of GOD and Christ in that one has to do absolutely NOTHING (save for truly believing Christ was the ONE and ONLY Son of GOD and asking HIM to forgive your sins and then attempt to live your life as HE would and not what a bunch of man-made rules/regulations say) to have eternal life with Christ after death. Cultic 'religions' add a
bunch of man-made ideas, thoughts, deeds, items to do - to gain what Christ taught was a free gift from GOD.
Anyone can start a 'relgion' that the right people would take up if they think you have what they are looking for. Manson, Jim Jones, the Haly Bop bunch, Waco's David Korash(?), Joesph Smith then Brigham Young of the Mormans, and other groups started by one or two people. These people take the word of GOD (usually from the Bible) and twist and/or add/take away from that.
The one line Christ said "...change not ONE dot or word..." comes to mind.
People who argue that the Bible is full of errors only have to go back to the originals to see that MAN made the errors in translations from the originals that were GOD inspired to the men who wrote it down. Its like the game we played as kids where you whisper one thing to the person next to you and they repeat it to the next, and they do the same all the way around until it gets back to you. And it is always different.
The tape is 'free' but they will call upon you to 'explain' their 'religion' to you.

Last time I checked, the latter was required, but the former was optional (ask a Jewish

I have nothing against Mormons. I just can't stand the commercial and
the thinly veiled proselytizing.

I'm sure this was just an oversight on your part, as we Jews,
certainly a true religion, do not follow Christ. I respect those who
do, but I don't. I'm not sure I believe in anybody right now.

I *think* you got that backwards (although my grammer is not as good
as I'd like it to be).

Food. No matter what the event (birth, death, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, etc.),
we eat ;-)
That I will agree with!

No oversite, Jewish people are GOD's chosen people who inherited HIS favor. Your people are the originals of "religion". Personally I don't like the term 'religion' to describe what GOD intended for mankind. Religion is a man-made term to descibe groups of believers in a 'god' that group believes in. Satan worshipers are a "religion",
I personally believe the Bible (any errors were man-made during the translations not by GOD), GOD created everything, HE sent HIS one and only Son to us to deliever HIS message, Christ died, rose, ascended, will return one day, and all I have to do is believe all this, accept Christ as my Saviour; and, live as I know HE wants me to, knowing I fail most of the time but I don't have to worry about that failure as it all was covered by HIS blood shed for me.
But the best part is that I don't HAVE to tell anyone or push it off on anyone, or give all my money to a leader/organization, or marry more than one woman, or the woman a leader picked for me, kiss a Pope's ring or his --- (well never mind). If someone asks or really wants to know why, I will tell them but I don't HAVE to go door to door per the church requirement.
AND I promise NOT to bring it up again.
jp
P.S. Unless by E-mail per request.
People like Sammy Davis Jr. thought it 'cool' to "convert" to it, but he was wasting his time. But one has to remember that that was the Old Test. time period, and when Christ arrived he taught one could become a member of GOD's family of Jewish people by believing upon him (Christ)..
But Christ never had a bunch of rules and regulations. Believe, accept, then TRY to live the best one can as Christ-like as possible. We as men/women will fail that is our nature, but we keep going and keep trying.

Personally, I don't mind if you bring it up again. I found your
points to be quite interesting. I understand how you have defined the
differences between religions and cults. I am a bit confused about
the Jews being the chosen people, especially after all of the
suffering we've experienced, particularly during the Holocaust. If
you think we should take this to email, that's fine. However, I would
be surprised if others are not interested.
