I've been watching reruns of In the Heat of the Night. I remember O'Conner from All in the Family, Archie Bunker's Place and In the Heat of the Night. He must've been around longer than Imus.

And O'Connor's character 'Archie' was racist at times.

Imus parodied racism. Most folks can't make that distinction.
