Haven't seen a good lively debate lately on who'd people like to see play Dirk
if a decent movie were ever made from Cussler's books... I could see David
Ducovny - he has the tall slim build and dry, ironic sense of humor. Anyway,
that's my grenade to toss on the fire - let the harassment begin!

Good call; Duchovny doesn't have the air about him that Pitt carries.

As bad an actor as he may be, I always pictured Dirk resembling Lorenzo
Lamas. Of course, that could be a sign of impending neurosis....

ROFL -- Remember, Dirk is supposed to be ATTRACTIVE; besides, Dirk would never
wear the hideous clothes that half-assed imitation actor Lamas wears.

Is it just me, or does LL appear to be in a continual state of shock, thus
appearing to be an insipid fool?

Like I said, the LOOK. He can be dressed, educated, and taught to act (a
little, I suppose). At least he knows how to pull of that "Damn authority,
I do what I believe in" attitude. I hope so, he's been practicing on
"Renegade" for what, six years?

Objectively (and fully comfortable in my complete heterosexuality), LL is a
pretty good looking guy.

That's acting. In actuality, he IS an insipid fool.

Like I said, I don't know why, that's just who I picture.

Sure, he can pull of that "Damn authority, I do what I believe in" attitude,
but can he do it without the look on his face that says, "I wundir how two spel

I HAVE IT!!!!
Get the wizards at George Lucas' ILM to digitally create Lorenzo as an
accomplished actor. They can create entire worlds and their diverse
populations. This simple one man transformation couldn't cost more than,
say, 80 million....

There are some very bizarre choices on those lists. First off, all these
characters have to be American. Not that I have anything against foreign
actors, but can you imagine Pitt or Sandecker with British, Australian or
Spanish accents? Secondly, how old do these people think Pitt is? Some of the
actors they chose could be Pitt's father... Anyway, thanks the site, it's got
some interesting ideas... I still think, done right, Titanic would be the best
movie - especially with all the Titanic fever these days...

How about Adrian Paul from Highlander if he can speak without the
accent?

Also, has any body seen Space Rangers? The guy who played Boone, his
name
escapes me right now, might fit the role also.

personally I believe it should be someone not very known. Maybe someone
whom was in a TV show or someone new. That way there is no reputation
of previous works to overlook the actual storyline.

Hello, all. I have read your posts off and on for awhile. Dirk Pitt is
a fun hero to read about and I enjoy the stories (haven't read them all,
however). The actor I think would fit the part has dark hair, craggy
face, and the necessary height, is Sam Elliott. I guess he's in his
50's, older than the character, but he has a deep voice - something I
attribute to Pitt. Don't think he has green eyes, however.
Pardon for jumping in.

This is just something I have been pondering for a while... It would depend
on which book as to who would be good for the role. He ages alot in the
books. What I mean is that for the earlyer books someone young, late 20s
would be good, but then if you go to the books that have just been finished
where he seems to think "I am getting too old for this" or something like
that someone in their 50s would be good, like maybe Harrison Ford or even
Sean Connery (ok he is old but he has the craggy "I have had the adventures
of a life time and I am still living" looks. And what about the other
smaller characters like Giordano, Smith, Gunn, (I cant spell this one but I
mean the computer guy) Hiram Yeager. Anyway that is just my thoughts on the
matter

If you want a female point of view, I'd say Ducovny isn't masculine enough.
You'd need more of a "Marlboro Man". I'll have to give it some more
thought.

I don't think Pitt makes into his 50's in any of the books, does he? As for
Sean Connery, the character is a california boy - not a brit....

I suppose you could be right, but I haven't seen him in anything that shows his
body. I don't picture Pitt being a muscle-bound guy, but you may be right
about Ducovny...

Hram, who the fuck do you think you are? The friggin Internet/USENET
Police?

Opinions dickhead. Get use to them. If you are this much of an asshole
on the internet, I would hate to see how you are in real life, where
shit really matters.

You`re right Sean Connery is a bit past it but his nationality doesn`t
matter.
The man has played Russians, Americans, Egyptians and Englishmen all without
having to change his accent and still being able to bed the likes of
Catherine Zeta Jones. Now that`s what I call a quality actor.
But he`s still too old, when he was younger he would have been perfect for
Pitt.

Sean Connery was recommended for Admiral Sandecker, not Pitt.

For some reason when reading the books I always pictured Hiram Yaeger the
character as Peter Horton (at least I think thats his name) He was Gary in
Thirtysomething. Its probably the long hair!

I still disagree, Pitt and crew have to be Americans. I love Connery, but he
isn't going to pass for a down-to-earth California boy. Having any British
actor would make it seem too much like another James Bond, which is a totally
different character from Pitt...

Sean Connery would have to play Brian Shaw if "Night Probe" was ever made into
a movie.

I'd still have to go with either Kevin Costner or Ed Harris in the more recent
books; where Pitt is older. As far as a younger Pitt (the earlier books) I
wonder how somebody like Johnny Depp or Edward Norton would do in the Pitt
Role.

I'd agree with Sam Elliott (if only he were younger). I voted for Tom
Selleck.

I also think that The Grandmaster would HAVE to play Sandecker.

Mr Sheffield is a fairy, not man enough for that role.

In "Night Probe", it was insinuated that Shaw was Bond, who comes out of
retirement for one last mission.

I don't know the actors name, but how about that chap that plays Hercules in
the TV series. He has the right colour eyes and with just a hair cut and a
dye job he's my picture of Pitt.
