Here's my guess for the damage equivalents for each Digimon power level:

New-born
Can't really attack besides throwing their bodies at an opponent.
Can be beat, like being stepped on, by any adolecent or adult human,
even if untrained in fighting.

In-training
Can shoot bubble streams. Probably can cause injury to untrained
humans. Trained humans could get rid to them easily if they're careful.

Rookie
Can shoot various energy and/or mass projectiles. Can cause serious
or fatal injury to unprotected humans. Can cause small-scale property
damage. Only humans trained in fighting and possesing body armor and
weapons should try taking a rookie on. Now a digimon has a reasonable
chance to successfully flee if they realize the battle isn't going their
way.

Champion
Can easily take on a single human. Can cause medium-scale property
damage. Humans would have to form SWAT or military teams to have a
chance.

Ultimate
Can take on small military teams. Can cause large-scale property
damage. Full-blown military units with high-powered weapons are needed
to stand a chance. Multiple units are suggested due to high mobility.

Mega
Can take on almost anything. Can cause all-scale property damage.
Unless the humans have access to a nuke, N2-mine or Eva units (Neo
Genesis Evagelion), minor-league Dragonball Z characters, or other
mega-level Digimon, the Digimon opponenet is basically God.

Quite a few could take small nuke blasts. A few Ultimates probably fit this
category too, I know I can think of at least one and if there's one there
is probably more. Oh and in the manga there was an in-training (or
something) which had the power of a Mega. Some champion Digimon would be
tougher than you suggest as well, like Angemon who was pretty much as
powerful as an Ultimate. Oh and some Rookies are alot tougher than you make
them out to be, like Renamon. And Guilmon is a rather overpowered Rookie as
well, and can do quite a bit of damage if he wanted.

Pretty accurate, but there are always gray areas. (Could digimon be killed by
bullets?) Some champs are weak, like Bakemon or Numemon. A human with a pointy
stick could take 'em down.

I'm thinking an N2 Mine would be a bit of overkill for some mega Digimon.
An EVA should be sufficient.

AT field.

Evas are actually tougher than N2 mines; this is shown a number of times,
IIRC. God, Evas are tougher than practically anything else; about the only
things that stand a chance are Naria&Eriya or Dornkirk [if they're quick;
yay entropy mages...], or a high-level saiyan or namekian. Perhaps
Gunbuster, it's unclear.

Yes he is stronger against virus types, that's because he's a holy digimon.
But he's still near Ultimate in strength just like his Ultimate is as
powerful as a Mega.

So basically, a mega-level Digimon would have little to no chance
against an Eva or Angel? Because in the planning stages of a fanfic I'm
writing, I plan to have WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon go up about either
Eva-01 or a random Angel out of the 17 and want to make sure I do it
right.

(Not that there is, as I'm sure most of you are thinking, anything right
about a Digimon/Evangelion story which will be a bigger part of Power
Rangers/Anime crossover fanfic.)

Against Eva-01 the digimon is toejam; against an angel, it
could probably do sufficient damage to slow it down slightly before
becoming toejam. An entity with a fully-deployed AT field is basically
almost completely immune from damage from anything without a
fully-deployed AT field.

I think this is all explained by Kaoru in ep... 24, I think. Plus,
numerous hints dropped through the show.

Actually... hmm. It could be theoretically possible for a digimon to have
an effectice AT field, but that would be so wierd I don't think you should
write it. Anything more would be really bad EVA spoilers. Plus still
disputed, but the basic content is clear.

Rewatch all the eps with Kaoru in them.

Eh? Nothing in Escaflowne except the direct use of the Atlantean
power would mess much with an Eva. Naria and Eriya on the super-luck
would probably LIVE THROUGH fighting an Eva, which I assure you would
be about as much sheer luck as you could possibly imagine, given that
the guymelef's actual power rating makes them equivalent to a newborn
beagle puppy attacking Godzilla.

or a high-level saiyan or namekian. Perhaps
> Gunbuster, it's unclear.

UNCLEAR?

A LOW-level Saiyajin, or even Kame-Senin, given enough time to pump
up, would use an Eva as a target in skeet shooting. You seem to have
an exaggerated idea of an Eva's power, or an underestimation of the
DBZ power level. Kame-Senin BLEW UP THE MOON! This makes all the power
shown in Eva **COMBINED** look like absolutely nothing. All the
nuclear weapons the human race has ever made, combined, would not be
able to do that. Hell, they couldn't even make a crater any larger
than some of the craters that are ALREADY there.

The Gunbuster is similarly overpowered; the things it fights are the
size of major asteroids, and it VAPORIZES them wholesale. It is by far
the most powerful mecha I've ever seen depicted. It would use an Eva
as a Barbie doll.

An entity with a fully-deployed AT field is immune from damage from
anything that isn't powerful enough to PUNCH THROUGH the AT field.
Even in Eva they demonstrated that you can get through by using enough
sheer force. So the only question is how much sheer power these
mega-Digi's can throw.

If they can match any of the HIGH powered anime beings -- say, equal
of a Chou Zan Do (great strike technique) by any of the Samurai
Troopers, a major attack by a Gold Saint, or a named attack by any
Z-warrior, then yeah, they can blow through the AT field. If their
power level is more on the Fatal Fury level (pre-Terry Deus Ex Machina
In The Movie time), then the Eva or Angel will tapdance on their
graves.

Well there's Apocylamon(sp?) who was going to blow up two universes
simultaniously. But his power was contained. But then he's probably the
single most powerful evil Digimon ever, and it was a suicide attack.
Although Myotismon probably came close with his sheer survival instinct.
Some of the god-like Mega Digimon who guard the Digital World are very
powerful, but they'd never use that kind of destructive force directly. I
don't know how powerful Imperialdramon Paladin-mode is as he was never
really shown in the series, supposed to be a DNA Digivolve between
Imperialdramon Fighter Mode and WarGraymon though so it's probably
significantly powerful. I don't know the firepower level we're talking
about though, because I've never seen the anime in question.....but I'm
betting there are a few Megas who can put out sufficient power.

Power-wise, Trunks and Goten are SSJ level. They could nuke any
planet they feel like.

My head explodes.

If you've seen all of EVA, it's fairly clearly stated exactly what an AT
field is. Given what a digimon is, it's unclear whether a digimon *could*
have an AT field. But any 'fic which posits that would have to be very
strange, and would bear more than a passing resemblence to Lain.

I'm not sure I'd want to read it, as I value my sanity.

Ultimately, no angel was *destroyed* by N2 mines or the UN forces. The
sit-and-drill angel was killed by the particle beam. But it was shinji who
pulled the trigger. I think that's deliberate, and I don't think there's
enough evidence to show that it wasn't.

I know nothing useful about the nonDBZ stuff you mention, but otherwise I
agree.

The thought occurs to me that most high-powered anime beings *could* get
through an AT field by virtue of their *SPOILER*, especially the magical
girls [Sailor moon! The power of love would be in with a good chance...]

But I don't know enough about digimon to tell if this would apply.

Piccolo is the ONLY villain to remain an unrepentant villain (i.e.,
not allying with Goku) AND to fight Goku directly more than once and
live to tell the tale. He has fought Goku three times. The first time,
he essentially KILLED Goku with a single shot (had Yajirobe not been
on the scene with CPR (I kid you not), Dragonball would have ended
right there). The second and third times were battles royale. And it
wasn't until after the THIRD one that Piccolo (at the beginning of
DBZ) ended up starting to work WITH Goku (only to fight a mutual
enemy).

Piccolo is, in my opinion, far more formidable than he lets anyone
see.

Sure. Because they're at the "base level" SSJ, while Vegita is at the
"I've been training as an SSJ for 10 years" level, which makes him
roughly three or four times as powerful, and in terms of SKILL he is
simply utterly out of their league.

My opinion is that he ISN'T. He just has his own motives and plans
which include NOT outshining the Saiyajin (specifically, Son Goku) as
long as someone ELSE is challenging them every so often.

I have very little evidence for this aside from some intriguing
little side events, but it's my favorite pet theory. Mainly of course
because Piccolo-sama is cooler than any other character in the series,
and Cool should count for something.

Hmm...

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned anything about EMP bombs, or
anything to do with EMWs. That *should* do something harmful, even
with a small amount.

Oooh!

Theory:
Since all electronic machines operate within the Earth's magnetic
field, every single one of them generate a certain amount of EMWs, be
it large or small.
Therefore, certain electronic devices can disrupt the operation of the
Digimon's program, causing a malfunction which can result in the
abrupt termination of the program.

More to come on that theory, but anyways...

EMWs should do something - how about radiation, like... [can't
remember the alt codes]... alpha, beta, and gamma particles/rays.

What about simple magnets? The Digimon is an *electric* program,
therefore a magnet might have an effect: (don't) try putting a magnet
near the computer monitor while it's on. See the funny colors? (by the
way, it's hard to get rid of them.)

How ab-- [ahh! brain cramp]

I don't think Digimon are merely programs. When on Earth, they're every bit
a physical entity as you or me, so a magnet would have very minimal effects.
In seasons one and two, the Digital World was a physical realm that one
could reach via the internet and behaved like data. And EMP or EMW might've
worked on Diaboromon, though, since he was on the internet, which would be
an electronic realm.

He certainly *LOOKED* that way, yes.

Though that particular fight has one of those subtle, odd events.
Here's the Z-warriors, getting whipped to crap by the chibi-Cells.
Even the Super Saiyajin brigade is only managing to block; they can't
attack for anything. The Chibis take their best shots and laugh.

But when Piccolo suddenly notices something he wants to act on, he
(quite casually) swats two of them aside like flies. Then, having done
what he wanted to do, suddenly he's back to being beaten on.

Sorry, I'm just a bit suspicious. Piccolo also can do other things
that no one else can; materialize objects out of nothing, for
instance, or destroy all cameras and film in an area -- even those he
doesn't personally see -- without injuring a single person involved.

He was effectively Satan, then he fused back together with God. I'm
not even sure he could really DIE permanently; after all, he and Kami
have in them the power that makes the Dragonballs work, and now
someone ELSE is running THAT schtick... so just where did THAT power
go? Oh, there's plenty of answers, sure. But I kinda like the idea
that the Mean Green Mother from Outer Space is a lot nastier than he
looks.

The problem is that Veggie-chan WOULD die trying. He's done it
before.

Vegita, not to put to fine a point on it, is a loser in the combat
brigade. He can't beat Goku; he managed it once and ever after he's
been playing catch-up. He passes Goku for all of a few minutes, and
the next Goku's pulled out another trick from his bag of Super Cheese
Stunts.

Oh, he's certainly #2 or 3, depending on how you measure it, but
Vegita has two major flaws: his arrogance and his lack of intellect,
at least when he gets ticked. None of the Z-fighters can be accused of
being geniuses, but Vegita is STUPID. At least in the tactical sense.
This is the man who LET Cell become Perfect. And expended some effort
to make sure that it happened, including fighting his own son.
Vegita's ego is FRAGILE, too. If he gets creamed, he gets so freaked
out that he actually is WEAKER for a while. Frustration and fury
completely blank his tiny little mind.

Goku, by contrast, is no genius either, but when HE gets angry it
usually seems to FOCUS his mind, which otherwise has a tendency to
wander cheerfully around the landscape without him. He also has that
hideously annoying power that allows him to learn what he sees faster
than anyone else can manage it, so whatever innovation you come up
with, he'll match.

Gohan is bright, but doesn't WANT to fight, really, so all his
potential never quite gets USED.

Trunks doesn't want to humiliate his father, and so never quite
uncorks all the whupass he has. This may not be the case with
ChibiTrunks, but HIS problem is that he's an annoying little brat, and
a bad influence on Goten.

I think Vegita is a
> very misunderstood character as to his motives for doing things.

For much of the series, what's to understand? Power and Pride, these
are his motives. He does some changing at the end there.

> But I'd sure like a cat like Puaru, now that would be very cool.

Sure would. Me, I want a pack of Capsules.

I'm thinking that in the real world, you're right. Rememder CLM (forget his
name) said digimon bioemerged by synthesizing proteins. Therefore their bodies
have some biological elemnent, like ours. But then again, Hypnosis's Juggernaut
Vortex had a magnet-like effect, so, they're not totally immune to that kind of
attack. I'm guessing an EMP bomb would damage a digimon, possibly taking out
its ability to use some of its special attacks, but the digimon would live and
still be able to fight using brute strength.

Actually, it seems to be the other way around. When Digimon are on Earth,
especially if they're evolving or doing something else involving lots of
energy, nearby electronics have a tendency to go wonky, especially
communications devices. This gets played up most in the first movie and
the early Eighth-Child arc episodes, but during them, we see such things
as phones ringing randomly, police radios getting nothing but static,
traffic lights (and other lights) flashing randomly, and various home
electronics scrambling their LEDs.

Of course, in the Tamers universe, Hypnos managed to devise the Yuggoth
program and Shaggai system to delete Digimon. Yuggoth appears to be
purely a program, but only works when the Digimon are actually in the
Internet, while Shaggai can actually draw Digimon to it and delete them
while they're in the real world. Of course, possible side effects can
include strange atmospheric lights and the summoning of Devas who can
actually use it as a conduit from the Digital World to the real one...

Magnets erase data by altering the polarity of storage media. In fact,
magnets are used to write data onto floppy and hard drives. An uncontrolled
magnetic field would mess around the data, making it unreadable. If Hypno's
Juggernaut was a magnet it would suck up everything made of metal, and the
Digimon (if they were data, which they aren't when on Earth) would just
shatter because their magnetic fields were disrupted.

Witha few exceptions, Fresh and In-Training would fight exactly the same way.
And FYI, those bubbles are literally harmless.

That sounds about right, but only for those Rookies that have energy attacks
ratehr than physical attacks(like punching/kicking).

>Champion

That's about right, but sometimes there's other things to worry about. For
example, the only time Mechanorimon's Twin(-kle) Beam attack was used it
instantly destroyed whatever it hit.

Most Ultimates with energy attacks are strong enough to take on an
average-sized army(like say that of...Nepal)...provided nuclear weapons aren't
involved.

Again, they aren't capable of mass destruction if they don't have energy
attacks.

NO! don't forget the king had a choice either listen to freeza untill the
legendary ssj come about (aside from Brawly) to kill freeza or die fighting him
which at the end he does but he had to teach his son cause they knew how freeze
could think them dead the had to be evil for the good of their race kinda like

Bah. Piccolo can't be *that* powerful. He freaked out at the thought of
trying to fight the Supreme Kai [Kaioshin, isn't it?] at the World
Tournament, after all. And the Supreme Kai was basically wetting his pants
at every display of power by Vegeta (vs. Puipui) and Goku (vs. Yakon), and
he talks about how it took all of his strength to hold Gohan (who hadn't
been training much over the last 7 years and was far less powerful than he
was when he destroyed Cell) immobilized so that Yamu and Spopovitch could
steal his power...

That last pretty much describes most of the good guys in DB & DBZ. :)
Looking through the episode guides I've totally lost track of how many times
some characters have died and been resurrected in some manner or other...

chibi == 'kid', or used as an insult to mean a short person.
