Was watching TBS (or Cartoon Network, cant remember which) this morning,
when I came across something that really, really disturbed me.

Scrappy-Doo in an energy dome.

I caught the last half of this cartoon, which involved Scrappy Doo running
around in a light green-colored Dome, with Shaggy and Scooby. As if that
weren't enough, they all end up on a stage performing in a punk rock/new
wave contest as "Scooby-Doo and the Scraps". And, as if THAT we'rent
enough, they bomb on stage, the crowd boo's them, and Scrappy says
something to the effect that the crowd just isnt ready for their sound!

The plot of the show was that an alien (which looked like a clone of
Scrappy-Doo, also wearing an green energy dome) was harassing Scooby and
Shaggy looking for Plutonium, all the whole shooting laser rays out of the
top of his helmet.

I caught the end credits of the show, and discovered the cartoon was
shamelessly fabbed in 1979.

Could it be that Scrappy-Doo *IS* Devo, like the rest of us? Or is he
merely a Merv, willing to wear the hat, but not the spudgun? Is
Scrappy-Doo's annoying behavior simply a charade to distract young
children away from his REAL plan? The teaching of de-evolution in cartoon
form?

The questions posed by Mr. J. Poag are certainly worthwhile ones to ponder.
Perhaps the writers of the episode were capitalizing on the alien plotline by
using some of the most alien pop music being made. Were DEVO seen before 1980
with the energy domes? I wouldn't know as I was a semi-moronic toddler at the
time. This fact leads me to wonder if I had seen that episode-- I did enjoy
Scooby and his gang of merry misanthrops-- and it was the reason for everything
I am. I could be a mutated persona created by a pop culture footnote. Which
calls into question the truths I hold so dear, the essence of my character, and
the core mechanisms of my brain. I have suddenly lost the urge to breathe. I'm
the operator of my pocket calculator... or am I?

"The next thing I say will be true. The last thing was false."
"Endless variations make it all seem new."-- DEVO

I kinda liked that episode! It was one of those things that's so weird, it's funny!
