also post hire if someone reports their online behavior.

Usenet is an easy target thanks to Google, but they are also missing every
chat room post, every Facebook account, every Facebook photo, every Facebook
post, every Twitter tweet. Oh, but all of those aren't archived yet? Well,
give Google some time, and it will be, just like Google made a special
search to archived Twitter posts.

And simply put--Google should be totally ashamed of themselves for turning
the Usenet community into an 20 years archive also with chilling effects.
Searching on someone's name--if they used their real name to post--still
puts embarassing posts by them or derogatory posts about them at the top of
the search results. Excellent for the dirt diggers who want to report
someone's online posts, but certainly not a complete picture of someone's
posting history.

So let's judge everyone today by posts made 20+ years ago. Right? But I have
always believed in all across the board or not at all. That would mean also
firing the reporting party who used company resources on company time to do
the dirt digging as well--or who used company resources to look someone up
for reporting their online behavior outside of company time--would be the
responsible thing to do.

Adding some obvious clarification.

If the person is a hiring manager or in human resources, of course they can
Google a job candidate pre-hire (before extending a job offer) or post-hire
(e.g., transitioning someone to another position).

But for anyone else, yes... that would mean firing the reporting party who
used company resources on company time to do the dirt digging--or who used
company resources to look someone up
for reporting their online behavior outside of company time--as the
responsible thing to do.

One other clarification. This isn't applicable to only one company, it
applies to any company with the same policies.
