Why do people leave fake photos on dating sites?

I never understand this. I though that if youre looking for someone then they are gonna want to see what you look like??
So why do people send in fake photos?
I have a friend in the industry and he says this happens real often, possibly 30% of photos in places like adultfinder are fakes...
The question begs..why?
It's just stupid and a waste of every ones time.
