But all that was way back in 1982/83...
Rip It Up had a great video with OJ in a studio wallpapered with tin
foil, Zeke the drummer using a teaset as percussion, the band walking
around in London Soho in wetsuits etc.
Ahhhh, those were the days.
WoW! Another OJ fan! I thot I was the only DB fan into OJ! I had to
fight to get Rip It Up in my last divorce. Got it, though. Vinyl it is,
but I cannot find it on CD. I love the song "Can't Help Myself"
Why am I doing this in the DB newsgroup?
Well, I don't think E.Collins is like DB, at all. But I loved OJ. (and
Aztec Camera).
Oopps. Sorry.

His voice is vaguely similar to Bowie's. His music is of a qulity like=20
the worst Bowie albums (Tonight, NLMD). Trivial popmusic.=20

He sounds like Iggy when Iggy attempts to "wax melodic". ( ;

Anyone remember the time that Nick Heyward forgot to start lip-synching
on Top of the Pops?
PS I think Bowie was on the same show...

who have you been talking to? I may be weird . . . but not silly. I guess
I should say that in my part of the world (BC) edwin collins is a newguy.
obviously from the comments he isnšt as new as (the radio guys) thought.
by the way i saw the video of his and he doesn't look old, so i would have
to say he hasn't been around much longer than i have.

He doesn't look old becasue he started so young. He was a
teenager when the band Orange Juice began. They were on the
*Postcard* label in Scotland, along with bands like Aztec Camera
whose lead singer Roddy Frame was even younger, about 16. The
stabkle of bands were known as "the sound of young Scotland" in
the post-punk years...

Edwin Collins started with a goof-pop band called Orange Juice is the
early 80s...great stuff, was actually a hit in parts of the UK. OJ split,
and he's been making records and producing since. I interviewed him a few
months ago, and mentioned that his singing reminded me of Bryan Ferry...he
laughed. I think the Bowie reference was some people's first
impression...listen to the Orange Juice stuff and you'll get no Bowie out
of it at all, but you WILL see how he evolved into the "Girl Like You"
thing.
Two guys who arrived at the same conclusion through the same influences.
That's all.
