Well, you *still* might be crazy, but the song exists, it's "Ashes to
Ashes" off "Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)."

Hello--
Hope you folks can help me. I have this memory of a "sequel"
to David Bowie's "Space Oddity" being put out in the early to mid
eighties. The song was about Major Tom's returning to Earth. It was
not performed by Bowie himself, but some other artist.
I thought this song was called either "Coming Home" or "Major Tom
Returns"...but nobody has a listing or even remembers it.
I'm I totally crazy or did such a song really exist? Any help would
be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your time and effort!

Kate--
Thanks for the reply, but that's not it. I'm familiar with "Ashes to
Ashes". Heck, maybe I DID imagine it.

Hey Brian!
The song in question is "Major Tom (Coming Home)" by Peter Schilling. It was
released as a single in the UK September 24, 1983. It reached #14. It can be
found on cd and tape on the "Living In Oblivion" (the 80's greatest hits)
series, volume 5.

Cheers,
Justin

I think the song you are referring to is Peter Schilling's "Major Tom (Coming
Home)". It came out in 1984 and was a big international hit.

Slan leat,

Dara (np: David Bowie - EARTHLING)

from Cat people have to do with anything?

I like that song alot (although it sounds TOTALLY un-Bowie)
I always get it stuck in my head (the refrain) 4,3,2,1 earth below us..
we had one of those tapes that repeat themselves at the mall when i worked
there. Every four hours that would play (and also "Panic in Detroit")

"The Prettiest Star" on Aladdin Sane (1973) was intended as some kind of
sequel in the beginning, but didn't quite work out that way...

Ashes to Ashes is the only formal "sequel" I can remember.

Hey...A little BOWIE trivia:

Name the childhood friend who threw the stone that nearly blinded young
Robert Jones in one eye.

C'mon, everyone here knows it was George Underwood. But I thought they
engaged in fisticuffs, not stone-throwing.
