David showed a great performance on Saturday Night Live tonight. As his
first song he played Little Wonder, and then as a surprise to almost any
fan, he played Scary Monsters. I was surprised when he played an older
song...didn't he swear off playing the old stuff? I thought he played
it maybe to get the attention of the crowd and to try and gain more
acceptance from the community. I was disappointed that he played Little
Wonder though...I thought he might have played Telling Lies or something
else off the album but i guess he wanted to further boost recognition of
the only song to get radio airplay. Anyways the story on the subject
line. During the credits and the cast goodbye, David was caught on
camera giving the finger, playfully or not to the guitarist whom im not
sure of his identity, maybe someone else can fill me in if he's not just
some fill in. Anywaus Bowie was caught by the live camera, filming a
seperate screen, giving the finger to the guitarist, or maybe i
speculate to the underzealous crowd? Feedback?

I wondered why my local station cut off the end credits...(it's on tape
delay here, so they probably saw the finger and said 'that's gotta
go'...)

It's really too bad, I would've loved to see David flip the bird.

Why? What redeeming social value would that have? I suppose it's just
the "rawness of Bowie" you crave. Who gives a flip(no pun intended) if
David flipped the bird, or if we see it. Is his bird any better than
anyone elses?

HA! Too bad all you fanatics who obsess over the minutia of David's
performances! Think about the music, not the finger. While his finger
mught be a bit more talented than yours or mine, it's still just a
finger.

Hmmm, here on the west coast, the closing credits for SNL were abruptly cut
off during the shot of a television showing Bowie and Gabrels, and alas, no
bird. Yet we got to see some dudes' ass in that Caribbean Essence commercial
spoof. Go figure.

I thought it was a pretty good performance. LW was okay, but SM had a lot of
energy, especially the end.

Canada's colourful ex-prime minister Pierre Trudeau was famous for giving
the finger... on one memorable occasion he directed the gesture at
reporters from the window of a moving train... went over quite big in
Canada... the guy had a lot of charisma -- didn't seem to hurt him.
Of course, Richard Nixon called him a 'son of a bitch' to which Trudeau
countered 'I've been called worse by better people'... attitude rules.

Didn't Bonster (or who was it...) relay in a review
of the last Boston concert that she was a bit put off
by Bowie and Gabrels exchanging the finger all night
long by rubbing it up and down their cheeks? Was that
butt cheeks, Bon?

Adam is struck with a brief bout of either profound
insight or Neil Beattieitis, I'm afraid. He'll get over
either soon enough.

I , for 1, cannot get enough of this 'bird' chat and hope
that this thread lives on forever and ever and ever.....

New thread directions:
Is Bowie giving us the finger with his music, perhaps?
Or was he involved with the 'Birdy' soundtrack?
Mabel, hand me that discography......

Adam, Bowie is much more than just the music, and if you haven't figured
that out by now, you're missing the point. The man is a consummate
performer and a glamour star on and off stage in a world where that
quality has been forgotten for ages. That's why his memorabilia is so
collectible and so many books have been written about him.

Adam, you know we HAVE to be obsessing over Bowie's body parts when reams
of paper have been devoted to his possible baldness (NOT), eyes, teeth,
face lift (NOT), finger and of course -- his dick! A few of us mostly
feminine types just have a thing for Bowie's body parts you know :)

And to the originall poster who doesn't think Bowie was flipping the
bird...I sometimes scratch my face, sometimes with my middle finger, but
never accidently fold down my index finger and ring finger along with it
:) Besides I think it fit the situation and he may have been fooling
around with Reeves anyway. But isn't it fun to argue about it
anyway...gives us such relief from our mundane lives......sigh

<<Yes, I too, notice the mutual "flipping of the bird" by Reeves and
David.
I seem to recall them both doing this to each other at the VH-1 Fashion
Awards show, too -- either after they did Fashion, or was it Little
Wonder. Damn, now I have to go and rewatch that tape to see for myself.
It's got to be some inside joke between them!

Ta-Ta to all.... got to go get my tape set up for Leno!

-- Mary>>

Yes, and I noticed them doing this several times during the Avalon show...
obviously this is a private joke of some kind.

I am innocent! First of all a finger never offends me, unless I am driving and some guy gives it to me...I wasnt at Boston either unfortunately...
