Hey, anybody know why David was an hour late in Vancouver ?
It was worth the wait because the Vancouver show rocked (arguably
one of the best venues on his tour), but I'm wondering what the
deal was with his tardiness.

My guess was because it was teh first show of the tour.

if you noticed they didn;t start working on all the lightening and video stuff
until after it became semi-dark.

And that there were people on stage almost up until he took teh stage.

i tended to put everything off as opening night problems

would be interested in learning when he starts on other shows of teh tour

Angel,
He was an hour late in Seattle last night too! I don't know, nor can I
figure out what the deal is other than Bowie can do anything he wants,
because, well, he's Bowie. I think it's rather rude to advertise that
there will be no opening act and that the show starts at 8 p.m. when it
was 9 p.m. Pretty good show otherwise.

Maybe he hasn't adjusted to the American punctuality thing yet? ;-)

In Europe, there's rarely a 'set' time for the band to ccome on, and if there
is, they're usually an hour late. At least.

Anticipation adds to consummation.

When has he ever started on time? For the TM II tour (where he played
Citadel Center, in DC) he brought a television out on stage and made the
first few rows watch half an hour of _Empty Nest_, waiting (just to
torture us) until the credits rolled to come one. A very loud gentlemen
to my right commented that if he'd wanted to watch _Empty Nest_ he'd have
stayed home, which got him a smirk from David, anyway...

You mean he did it to Europeans, too? I felt sure that he was making
fun of Americans specifically. (Yes, Dara, I know, I'm displaying the usual
American oversensitivity but if I were going to make fun of my countrymen,
I'd start with the TV...)

That's a scary thought, Dara -
says Orandon, who still smells like burnt plastic...

Many venues, especially those with bars, open the doors much earlier
than the actual showtime, and advertise the showtime as being much
earlier than the actual showtime. They want everyone to spend as
much money as possible at the bar before the show begins.

Yes: it was a BITCH when we discovered that he wasn't coming on until
9:00, in Seattle; an hour later than planned. God forbid that we be given
time to bond with each other; we'd only be punching each other's faces off
in the end, anyway! But for me, it was okay. I felt his tardiness
it added to the frustration and angst of everyone's dour, impatient NEED
to BITCH about something! (- anything! - nothing!)

It gives one focus, you know?

I never saw so many mouths moving in and out in such a complaining fashion
in my life! (It was like watching my mother - and that woman is a BITCH!)
Oh; except when, we were waiting in line weeks ago for the tickets?
Everyone BITCHED. That's why David should make it a mandatory
practice to sing "QUEEN BITCH" at the opening of each show! I mean, if
we're gonna BITCH, then we should all BITCH TOGETHER!
"In harmony!" Right? ; )
Love,
O.

To point out:
Ah, but then David is trying to create Chaos in his concerts, remember? To
sing that song would appease the Bowiefan gods.
Bitch together...since when does negativity make the world go round?
If you go to a Bowie concert, you should be thankful..you at least got
tickets. Smile, the end isn't near..

Was he actually supposed to start at 8 p.m.?

That would've been unfortunate at the Warfield in S.F. on 9/9, since the
place was half empty until about 8:45.

But, people in California always arrive late and leave early (to beat
traffic, just like everyone else)
