I know that I'm offended. This shutdown is affecting some of
my favorite people in some of my favorite newsgroups. And here too.
Sorry I was away. I had a lot on my mind last week and barely
had the spare time to sulk about a really awful development in the
comic strip _9 Chickweed Lane_ over on rec.arts.comics.strips.

Part of me feels I am to blame. Seriously. I recently switched from
BellSouth to AT&T Uverse. They couldn't get the NNTP to work. I actually
figured the problem out when they couldn't. They have all these engineers,
etc, etc. None of them could figure out the problem. I did.
Now keep in mind they're advertising a service as part of the offering which
means they have to provide it.
So anyway, the problem is very complicated and requires a lot of effort to
fix. I think that's why they decided to ditch it. (Keep in mind leaving it
up would cost ZERO if they didn't have to work on it.)
If you think I'm making this up, check my blog. I've been talking about it.
Their integration between ATT and BellSouth equipment hasn't been smooth.
I could PAY for usenet access but quite honestly, I'm not sure I will.

I was thinking the exact same thing. There hasn't
been any spam in this group until you came back.

The spammers don't spam if nobody reads.
But that wasn't spam. It was a locally generated post by AT&T that all users
who will be affected got (Bellsouth, AT&T, SBC, etc, etc.)

Use Google Groups--it's not quite as straightforward as newsgroups in
your email client, but it's not THAT bad.
I recommend peeing on AT&T trucks whenever you can. It makes them rust.
