I dunno. Anyways, his name is Carl "Oldie" Olsen (His middle name is
spelled w/ an 'ie' rather than a 'y'). Just felt the need to nit-pick.

Bad grammar and spelling do not reflect
the authors intelligence, at least not
in my case.

I don't know, but Carl E. Olsen has a Marijuana Policy Library at
http://www.calyx.net/~olsen/ :)

I'll reply to two threads in one post and mention that I saw his name one time on
the show spelled Oldy.
His real name is William Preston and during the recent Halloween sketch Conan
even walked onto the main stage and said "Nice job William."

I remember seeing him in the crucible as one of the townspeople. I also
remeber seeing him in some Charles Grodin movie as part of some family.

I'll just have to take your word for that, but it just doesn't look
right. I mean, it looks to damn much like 'moldy'!!!

While I like the idea of Oldy Olson, I do not like this individual.
He is too feeble, too unintelligible. I think the choice of an
"absurd character" of younger years such as Letterman's "Larry Bud
Melman" would have done better.
Only a very few skits with Oldy even come off because he is so
consistently not understandable in speech. The skits that do come
off as funny are the ones where: you can understand some of Oldy
AND you see that his words do NOT match the running text graphic
at crucial moments in the skit.
Retire Oldy and get either a younger oldy or an absurd character.

I'm gonna have to disagree. I personally love Oldy, and
think he is one of the funniest things on the show. Now, I
know everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, and
this is mine: Oldy being unintelligble and feeble is one of
the major selling points of the skit. And as for the speech not
matching the written text, do actors always recite lines perfectly?
I thought the Erotic Pilgrim was hilarious, UPS strike, &
of course, his most recent one where he was banned for a year.
So my question to you is: How can you like the idea of Oldy
when you don't like Oldy himself?
