..But left after a couple years to work with some kind of
charity organization. Some odds and ends that I have gathered
about Lynn through Conan: She smokes, she's a vegetarian (and
she eats tofu bacon), she likes Phish.
A cool and wonderful person named Rene (who has posted here once
or twice) told me that she has friends in NYC who have reported
that Conan has come into their coffee shop a couple of times
with a blonde woman. So, not a huge surprise, he's dating.
And then there was that blurb about an old girlfriend in the
Times...

MissManila21 and I were talking about the "break up" of Conan and Lynn... is
this true? Or is it just crazy wishful thinking rumor? I remember hearing this,
but who knows... Also, It seems to me that Conan has stopped mentioning her on
the shows. Does anyone know the real deal? Damone? etc?

I remember they broke up in September 1999. I think The New York Daily News
had an article about it back then. (I'm not a gossip monger; it was in the
paper and discussed here in AFCOB.) I'm sure someone has the article.

Of course, lots of folks here are in desperate love with Conan,
so posts about the guy's social life are bound to surface here
from time to time. But I think it's good to be as kind (and
noncompetitive!) as possible in posts about Lynn Kaplan, because
she was brave enough to post here under her own identity a few
years back.

At this point, Conan has no clear, direct relationship with us.
He's just a guy on a TV show we like. Kaplan, on the other hand,
is a denizen of alt.fan.conan-obrien, and therefore (whether she
likes it or not) one of us.

How did you know it was her? And how do you know she still does? And if you
talked to her...what was the reasoning of her posting here? And also, girls
want to know, they want to know...it is the way of a celebrity life, prying.

My friend just gave this to me last week and just so happens to be in my
lunchbox which just so happens to be right under my foot.

It reads:
*sorts through assorted papers, lip gloss and toys*

CONAN: Wrong Table

THE big mistake Conan O'Brien made Monday was to sit next to a Post reporter at
Judson Grill. For over an hour, O'Brien vented to his lunch date about his
ex-girlfriend, who shall remain nameless. She didn't "understand" many things
about him and, even worse, "She was good at faking headaches." His spokeswoman
said we misheard; he was talking about the headaches he himself used to fake
as a kid to cut school. Sure.

She used to post upcoming guests as far as I know. she may have posted
something else. And once she sent me a rather British sounding e-mail about
something I asked about.

She also was involved in the old Krunk! fanzine. Any one have any idea about

Back in the early days of the show she used to be a regular of this newsgroup.
She had a position as talent coordinator or something with the LNCOB show. I
would say late 93 to early 95 she would post as CONA...@aol.com and
sometimes her real account. When she was posting under CONANSHOW all
that was listed was the upcoming guest of the show, but once she did yell at
a troll under the CONANSHOW address.
There were only about 10-15 regulars who used to post back then. I was more of
a lurker. The only person I recognize from that period who still post is
Damone. Al Bell was the
number one poster I don't know if she is still around. She was more a
stalker. Just joking.
Once back in '94, the CONANSHOW posted a note that Conan was going
to do an interview with a reporter about the 'Internet'. And then gave the
private AOL chat room that Conan was going to be. The subject said Emergency.
The post was around noon and the interview was going to go on in a few hours.
None of the so called regulars saw the post in time, except me and I didn't
subscribe to AOL. It was a common misconception of folks back then that
AOL was 'the Internet'. I didn't have an AOL install disk handy so I couldn't
subscribe in time. It turns out that no one was there so Conan had to go to
the regular chat rooms.

At first she was a regular poster. I thought she was just another fan. It
was only after some other poster congratulated her on her promotion or
something that I notice that she worked for the show. She may have got
the job after she first posted on this newsgroup. I forget. After that she
started
posting under the CONANSHOW address. I'm sure some intern took over
the job later. The last hurrah for this relationship with this newgroup may
have been the first Cone Con in August 1995. The 10 or 15 regulars who
made the trip got to go backstage and have Pizza and take pictures with
Conan, Andy and some of the writers. I wasn't there.
The next Cone Con in 1996 got a cold reception. They wouldn't let anyone
more than a group of four sit together and there wasn't any acknowledgement
from Conan. Again I wasn't there but was kind of sad when I heard about the
treatment of Conan's early supporters. I quit visiting this newsgroup around
that time.

Ok, because I am kind and can sympathize with the Unrequited Love for
The Freckled Wonder crowd, I will fill you in. I don't know what you
know or what you don't know. Lynn Kaplan is Conan's ex-girlfriend. They
went out for 4+ years. They broke up in the summer of 1999, and Conan
was a Single Guy again. So a lot of us womensk here in AFCOB and
everywhere started to get very curious about his lovelife. "Is he still
alone and recovering? Has he dated a Rebound Girl yet etc. etc.?" Well,
rumor was, via Renee via Sheriff that he had been seen with a blonde
around NYC, starting around what, 4-5 months ago? Not LK. That was the
first glimpse into his post-LK lovelife. But like last month, there was
a NY Post article about Conan bitching about his "ex-girlfriend" and her
"frigidness." We didn't know if he was discussing the ex-Rebound Girl or
THE ex-girlfriend, LK. I thought, unfortunately, it was LK because I
didn't think he had 'dated' Rebound Girl long enough to bitch so
intimately about her for an hour. Whether this NY Blond is still in the
picture, or not, or if there's someone else, that's all up in the air.

I have something like that on tape. It was from last summer, I think. On
ABC or CBS or ABS, I get them confused. He was talking about his comedic
influences, and he was very earnest. They hilighted the Rocka-bryonic
Polka Pilots thing. Candice Bergen was the host. Is that what you are
talking about? Or something else? Because I may owe myself a kick, and I
don't like to be in debt. :)

No, it was old home video of him performing in a coffe house or
something. He was singing and playing the guitar, he was about 17. I
wept when I found out that I had missed it. My friend saw it but she's
not a "believer" so her account of it was tainted with anti-Conan
rederick. She said that he wasn't good and he had terrible acne and
was really skinny and ugly. I remember yelling that it was people like
her that destoyed his childhood, then punched her in the stomach and
ran away.

I don't even know that I'm me, but I think it was her (or, maybe,
interns plus her) because she helped me a little with the
arrangements for the first Cone Con.

>And how do you know she still does?

I don't, but my philosophy is that anyone who ever actually
posted here is one of us, as long as we know who it was.

Also, even if Lynn Kaplan no longer looks at the newsgroup
itself, it's always possible that she might just do a Deja search
to see what we've been saying about her. So I think the safe,
polite thing to do is assume that she is still here.

Hey Alison Bell you were the number one poster on this newsgroup. Tell
everyone that Lynn Kaplan had a presence on this newsgroup when
it started.
I don't see what the big deal was. This was BEFORE it was known
that she was dating Conan. She didn't come on the newsgroup and
say hey I'm Conan's girlfriend. Otherwise I'm sure you would have been

I thought your 'They don't need us anymore' after Cone Con II was sad.
But you did get to have Pizza with Conan and Andy after Cone Con I.
