Hamsters and Richard Gere

this has come up a couple of times on Conan, the celebrity tombstones
bit a couple of days ago being most recent, they keep making references
to Richard Gere and rodents..did i miss something? i have no idea what
they're talking about. if someone could fill me in here, i'd really
appreciate it.

Rolled in cocaine and then up the booty they go. We actually talked about this
in a health class I took. It made me wonder about the professor, but he was
great. Watched Conan.

its quite simple actually,
while back, there were a chain e-mail about two gay men in hawaii who got a
hamster stuck up one of the man's ass in some sort of sick sexual fetish
thing..

and conan's writing staff (or may be its conan's idea) is using the
persistance rumor that richard gere is gay. also, tombstone wasn't the
only reference he made so far.. there was the celebrity production company
logo thing where richard gere's logo "Nervous Gerbil Company"

A couple things for the record:

1) It's *shaved*, live gerbils. That's important for some reason.

2) Conan in no way came up with this rumor. It's one of the urban
legends of Hollywood for years and years. Gere's prolific womanizing gave
way to a persistent rumor of his homosexuality. The best I remember, the
whole Gere/gerbil stuffing rumor began when Gere was rushed to the
hospital one night under suspicious circumstances. The rumors started
soon after, and have dogged him for decades. As best as anyone can tell,
they are completely false.
