Jim Fidler's new rock concept album is finished and
the package design and name is almost decided on
so it should be out in the fall.
It sounds excellent. I advised him to shop it to
some indie labels who could perhaps help him with
the promotion. But he thinks they would just want
him to tour incessantly and he is not interested in
touring in a van again or flying, but might be
interested in a cushy tour bus.
One listener thinks the CD is heavily Pink Floyd
influenced but I think just the opening track
Mister Man is Pink Floyd influenced.
Jim has said he will try to get a copy to his
first cousin Christina Aguilera. But he thinks
the major labels won't be interested since it
is designed to be listened to as an album,
with some cross fading between the tracks, and
major labels just want MP3 singles, not albums.
I'll post a review when it is released. But
basically it is the story of a rock singer
Mickey Klein who becomes disillusioned with
fame and its trappings but eventually comes
out the other side without choking on his own
vomit (e.g.) like some past rock stars. The
first half of the CD is a bit more upbeat
and the second half a bit more introspective.
There is a bit more detail at
http://www.jimfidler.com though the title
given there is The Final Curtain Call and
the current working title is Gold (which
means he would automatically have a Gold
record, plus is a play on the song The Weed).
