there is another problem: the stars are visible "through" the crescent moon.
In reality, the moon is always a full circle; it's just a matter of how much
of the fully-lit side is visible. The stars should disappear as they pass
behind the moon's disc."

Today's doodle on Earth day is INCORRECT. The moon rsing should have its
lighted part towards the sun. It is shown opposite, and hence INCORRECT.
