My computer is set to open this video in Windows Media Player, and it
played fine. My question is: is there some way for me to save this
video so that I maybe could put it on a DVD or something for my mom to
see? I don't see anywhere how to save the video via WMP.
I can't give a direct URL link to the video, but if you want to see it
in order to experiment or see whether there's a way to download it:
1. Go to www.stdl.org/localhistory
2. Enter search term of "hoffman".
2. You can pick any of the videos listed there (the one I actually
want is the 3rd one listed, "Hoffman Estates: Thirty Years
Remembered"). (Warning: they are all boring as hell.)
Is this video specifically protected from copying? Is there any
freeware or something that I could use to grab this video?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can provide.

It's streamed video rather than sent as a single file, which makes
saving it an annoying task. There are lots of commercial programs that
will do the job, but for a free solution you might want to look at
this.

The relevant link to paste in for this particular video file appears
to be "mms://hyperionmedia.stdl.org/ref/1413.wmv"
Thanks. I downloaded VLC, then saved the video as a 260 MB file. I'll
burn it to a CD tomorrow for my mom. Many thanks!!!
I'm told that Orbit Downloader also does the trick:

I haven't actually tried it myself but it was recommended in a neighbouring
froup.
