Ah spring, and in the Northern hemisphere that means the ecliptic inclines
steeply up from the Western horizon after sunset. And that means the next
few days are very favorable for viewing this Eastern elongation of Mercury
(greatest extent on Monday, the 17th) in the Northern hemisphere. Look West
about an hour after sunset. Low in sky and a bit to the right of the Moon (and
below) will be Mercury, easily the only bright object in the vicinity. On
Friday, the 14th, the crescent moon will still be somewhat close by. On
successive days the Moon will be higher in the sky as it continues its orbit
around the Earth.
