I went and saw "Ocean's 11" (feh) yesterday and everytime Julia was on
screen I couldn't help but look at those things passing for her lips.
Is there something going on there, is she a cross between a human and a
remora or is she some kind of alien lip monster?

I think it's the whole collagen lip thing that has been popular recently. I
don't get it. To me, Angelina Jolie is a very pretty woman, but in some
photos she looks like a trout. And Goldie Hawn on the stars telethon for the
911 thing, well, she just looked like someone had taken her to the 7-11, and
had her suck on the air dispenser hose while they fed it too many quarters.

I still wonder about the after effects of collagen - if you don't work out
your lips regularly, do they start to lose tone? Will all these women regret
the injections after their lips start hanging down around their chins? Well,
probably some of them *do* get enough lip exercise, in one way or another,
but what about those who don't?

Speaking of lip exercise - did Ocean's 11 really suck? I wanted to see it,
being a fan of Andy Garcia.

I wouldn't say suck but it was at best ok. No one turned in a stellar
performance and there really wasn't any character I could get behind and
root for. Garcia played this emotionless individual and, since that's
what the role called for, I guess you could consider it a success but it
wasn't particularly vile where you cheered against him. The best
character, IMO, was Pitt's; he had some life and personality to him. It
was almost like a movie made completely from supporting actors.

It's still playing everywhere and seems to have legs, so you may get a chance
to see it in a theater. Strange and conflicting movie reviews about the film.
The New Yorker guy said that it was fun for about an hour, and then became so
dull you wonder why you went to see it. But the Wall Street Journal guy, who
doesn't like *any* movies, gave it a good review. Boxoffice.com, that has
reviews that I tend to follow most of the time, gives the movie 3 stars out of
five. It says that it is a fun movie that is a throwback to when films were
fun.

Because we all know that no movies are fun anymore, right?

Mark Ramsey, of Movie Juice!, who is not a pushover, loved it.

If you like Andy Garcia, have you seen Dead Again?

I think to properly answer that question, you need to see the original film by
the Rat Pack. I have a feeling the reason this remake is getting good reviews,
is because the earlier film bombed so famously. This version probably makes
the Rat Pack movie look like Cannonball Run 3 or something.

Yes, of *course* I own "Dead Again" - on my long list of favorite movies,
and where I first really noticed Andy Garcia, enough to fall in love,
anyway.

I thought the movie was absolutely wonderful - and it really made me love
Kenneth Branaugh, as well, although some of his "I'm really Shakespeare
incarnate" movies have made me wonder why I love him (Hamlet).
Although I did like "Much Ado About Nothing" and "Othello".

Right now? Tall order. I have a frickin' deadline, you know, and I
really think this book could make enough money to make a real difference
in my life -- not enough to make me rich, necessarily, but a real living

Can't do that anymore. Scotchguard is off the market. Turns out that one of
the flurocarbons in S"guard is the universe's most indestructible chemical.
It's not toxic, but 3M was reluctant to keep manufacturing a compound that
would be around until the big crunch/heat death.

I was amazed by how awful Julia looked. I was never a big Julia Roberts
fan (I liked her when she was the hooker and later when she was the legal
assistant) but I think that her profile view in Oceans has killed her next
chance to be a leading lady. She looks both aged and gaunt.

Carl Reiner looked older than Julia, but not as gaunt; other than that, all the
men were prettier than she. I've been a fan of hers in the past, but in this
movie she looked just terrible; unhealthy. Her hair looked like shit; dry,
stringy and unkempt. I don't know what she's done to her lips...her mouth was
always wide, of course, but her upper lip is now at least a half inch thick and
straight across, no definition or little "dip" in the center. If she's had
collegen injections, she outta sue someone.
We also noticed that in some shots it looked like she had a moustache, and in
some, she had two red patches over either side of her upper lip, exactly as
though she'd waxed just before walking on the set. We were really stunned at
how awful she looked. So awful, I even looked up her age. She was born in 67,
she's only 34, but there are lots of 50 year old actresses who look better and
healthier.

Gosh, I should hope so. Even looking bad, she didn't look 79, which is
Reiner's age.

I was going to make a snide remark about his acting ability (hmmm, I
guess I just did), but then I know I'd make up an excuse to break off
a discussion with, say, Meryl Streep in order to chat up, say, Denise
Richards.

Not that I'd likely hold either of their attentions for an appreciable
time, of course ...
