Sure, if the character is the same.
What was weird in John Waynes case, they were apparently DIFFERENT characters
in different situations, although you could pretty much say it was always the
same archetype in the same situation. It was really the same character, if it
was a John Wayne Western. What about a John Wayne war movie?
You could almost make the same argument for other Male movie stars whos star
rose under the studio system. (female stars were tied in closer to the fashion
industry) Cary Grant, suit, often a tuxedo, and so on. Even Spencer Tracy,
whose clothes were not so similar to the standard uniform 'man in suit'
uniform of the other stars in urban situation roles, had clothes often similar
from role to role. He might be in Rumpled tweed... something slightly
dishelveled.

There's one who has a uniform he wears for roles in *various* genres.
From www.jabootu.com:
At this point I'd like to take a second to discuss Caine's
wardrobe. Theres little doubt that Caine habitually chose
the threads that his film characters would wear. That's
because it seems like he wore the exact same outfit that
hes wearing here in about ten straight years worth of
films. By which I mean a navy blue, double breasted
blazer with bronze buttons, a blue, open-necked dress
shirt, worn either alone or with a cravat, and tan
slacks. I always wanted to systematically go through and
record for posterity the presence of the line, "This guy's
good!" in every Steven Seagal movie. Maybe to that
project list I should go through the two thousand movies
Caines been in and see how many times he in fact wore
this outfit.

John Wayne just played John Wayne. The scripts or storylines were
incidental.
On the day his death was announced, a newspaper hoarding pronounced " John
Wayne Dead".
Underneath it, someone had written "The hell I am".

ISTR the Duke always used the same six-gun & the same gun-belt.
ISTR also that James Stewart gad a favourite horse that appeared in all his

ISTR that James Stewart was better known for wearing the same hat in
all his westerns, for many many years, and there was some sort of
problem with this in one of the later ones - with him and Henry Fonda
- perhaps _The Cheyenne Social Club_?
Google proves me wrong, as usual. He did have a favourite hat, but
Henry Fonda had nothing to do with it:

His horse, Pie, actually appeared in 17 movies; he was Stewart's most
frequent co-star:

And here's what JS says about both:
