Plugging a phone number into google no longer provides a name.
Googling for free reverse phone lookup results in sites that are not free.

Is there no such thing as a free lunch?

This is also my experience and it's a shame. I really don't want your
birth certificate or your past address. Just a name and your town would
be nice. I'd even be happy with just a name.

Yes. But you have to have friends with money.

Is there such a thing as free "white pages" listing? It seems that
all I get when I search for a residential phone listing is pay sites
that say "Yes, we've found Mortimer Snerd, and if you agree to let us
to automatically bill your credit card every month, you can see the
phone number." Last time I tried to use Dexonline, the "find a
person" link never loaded, and Dex is useless for searching businesses
by name. It treats every commercial search as a yellow pages search,
and the first few hits at the top of the list have nothing to do with
your search--they've just paid a fee to be listed at the top of every
search, no matter what the search is for.

Also
http://www.411.com/ and
http://people.yahoo.com/

I don't always get identical results, so it can be worth not accepting
a negative result on the first one you try.

It tells me the person who called me has an unpublished number.
But the site is worthwhile anyway.

Thanks

Those two didn't find my unpublished mystery caller either.
But again, they're worth having.

Thanks

Try Bing. I just tried it with my mobile number (in my sig below)
and got lots of hits - mostly from websites that have copied one of
my Usenet posts verbatim, sig and all.

As you said, it works when a name and phone number has been
linked together on the web. Google finds you also.

That one can't find my unlisted mystery caller either.
But it's worth keeping.

Thanks.
