You know the economy is bad when a cheap ass reality show that tops the
ratings (at least as far as Canadian original programming goes) still cannot
bring in enough advertising interest to be economically feasable.

Nope, it's only the second highest rated "original" Canadian show. The
"original" "So You Think You Can Dance" is #1.

No big lose for me but what a joke that they would cut their second highest
rated Canadian show that must have a relatively small budget. Just how much
could a bit of traveling around the country and paying a bunch of formerly
no-name judges and host cost?

Either there aren't that many good singers in Canada, or the good
singers have already all decamped for The States anyway. Oh well!...

Of course the talented people go where the big bucks are--hope you're
enjoying Celine ;-)

CI wasn't cancelled because of lack of good singers. It was because Canadian
networks are unbelievably cheap. Their mantra is why develop when you can
buy US programming for less money and get higher ratings. AI gets double the
ratings of CI but CI is shown during the summer which probably doesn't help.

They are undoubtedly paying buckets of loonies to Simon Cowell just to
use the Idol name. It wouldn't surprise me if he is the biggest
expense:

Simon Fuller you mean. They are different people.

Fuller is a bright guy. Cowell is overpaid talent.

Well I'll be. I thought it was Cowell who created and owned the show. I
was so close and yet, so wrong. Thanks for clearing that up.

I did too for a while. I think a lot of people do and it's part of the
reason Cowell survives. The guy is all smoke and mirrors.

Another common one is Jeff Probst and Mark Burdett. You'd be amazed how
many people think Probst produces Survivor. (Although, unlike Cowell,
Probst has a lot of talent and gets some credit for the show's success.)
