Favorite Buddy Holly songs......

My personal favorite is......"True Love Ways". It was one of the last
studio recordings he made. (Written by Holly). As for songs, written
by other people, "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" is my favorite....(written
by Paul Anka). Actually, I believe both songs were from the same studio
session? Both were from Buddy's "pop mainstream" period, toward the end
of his career. The songs were more subdued, with a more sophisticated
musical score. The use of strings for example. Buddy Holly was one of
the first "rockers" to make use of more classical accompaniment, such
as, strings. One more reason why Buddy Holly was one of the best
musicians of his, and all time.

Think It Over, for the piano solo and Buddy's vocals, Rave On, for the
piano solo, again (Norman Petty's wife, right?) and It Doesn't Matter
Anymore.

For starters, the vocals on Buddy's rockers were so COOL, as a young
teenager, I heard it, and thought, oh, that's what I want to be,
that's how I want to sing. His voice was so expressive, in his tone
and annunciation he could tell you more about a feeling than just
about any poet.

I thought Buddy's voice was "real". It wasn't perfect, he had that
"hick up", when he sang. But, it was unique. His real talent was as
a musician, to this day, he still ranks in the top 20 or 30 guitarists.
He popularized the "Stratocaster". A real compliment, considering how
much musical styles have changed.

Yes, the piano accompaniments were by Vi Petty, (Norman Petty's wife).
They had a recording studio in Clovis, New Mexico. Virtually all of
Holly's biggest hits, were recorded at the Clovis studio, between 1956
and 1958. Norman Petty actually had his own group......"The Norman
Petty Trio".

Holly broke with Norman Petty, as his manager, in 1958. Holly was in
the process of suing Petty, over frozen royalties, and publishing
rights........ when he was killed on February 3, 1959.
