Does anyone know what has happened to Brent's brother? Sounds like

I agree. If he had wanted us to know more about it, he would have told us at the con, wouldn't he? Whatever it is that happened, I wish him the best.

Like he's really going to stand there in front of an audience of a
thousand or so and bring them and himself down by discussing it.

And whatever we do, let's *not* offer our condolences to Brent on the
ng. Oh yeah.. let's just continue on our merry way, making posts about
him being a liar and disrespecting his fans and not liking us, and posts
about his euphemistically-named dick like that's the only part of Brent we
care about, and above all else let's continue making posts about Ron as if
he were still... with us. Brent's *sure* to enjoy reading these types
of posts right now (I say that like I actually think he's even lurking
here right now).
But let's be absolutely, positively sure NOT to make any posts
offering our sympathy to the man to let him know that we genuinely care
about *him* and his feelings and what he must have been/ must be going
through. Let's just let Brent assume that our feelings towards him are
entirely superficial... which I'm sure will just reinforce his feelings
towards us....

I agree with Anne. How we decide to show our sympathy to Brent should be up to the individual. Having lost a brother in a tragic accident, I know how much it meant to me to have people tell me their thoughts and prayers were with me. I didn't care if I knew them well or not. I just needed to know someone cared.

There wasn't even a obituary, from that one would assume the family did
not wish it to be made public.

I don't recall that being mentioned unless there have been some posts
lost. I understand the posts to read that it was a matter Brent would
wish to keep private and not have spread all over the internet for the
entire on line world to see.

Oh yeah.. let's just continue on our merry way, making posts about

And what would you have the posts on? Change the whole ng. and make it
obvious that we don't want life to continue as normal. Like crossing the
road when you see a bereaved friend because you're too embarrassed to
talk to them in case you 'say the wrong thing'. That's about the
cruelest, most unkind thing you can do. It isolates them and deepens the
grief, it would realy rub it in that Ron died. I can talk about it
through experiance and through training as a bereavement councilor.

and above all else let's continue making posts about Ron as if
> he were still... with us.

That's the first mention of Ron for a while, that thread had been
dropped.

See above.

Let me reiterate, the family has *not* publicised the death, it would
therefore be pretty safe to say that they did not want it spread all
over Spiner fandome. Doing that is hurtful to Brent. By not saying, his
and Sylvia's wishes are respected as well as Ron's family. If someone
wishes to send condolances, they should be done privatly through his PO
box number, posting them only draws attention to something that is part
of his private life that he wishes to keep private.

I think we are all devastated by the news and would love to hug him and
tell him he has our love and support. Not on the net though, where the
vicious can take and twist it and realy cause Brent pain.

Think about this then, especially since Brent is supposed to be doing a
con out your way in a couple of months...

If people don't know what happened, then a fan may innocently ask
Brent a question about his brother at a con, and how in the hell is Brent
going to feel then - and the fan - and the rest of the audience?!?! Just
because he's not going around advertising about his brother, or chatting
about it pleasantly with 2000 strangers in an auditorium, doesn't mean
that he doesn't want the fact known.

>If someone
>wishes to send condolances, they should be done privatly through his PO

And if we can dehumanize Brent on this ng to the point of talking
about a part of his precious anatomy as a freaking *sock* then it's pretty
sad that we should be censored from "rehumanizing" him by expressing our
sympathy towards him at this time.
I'm beginning to think that some of the posters to this ng are worse
censors than the AOL censors could ever dream of being.

Thank God I have a web page now.

That sounds like a good idea... count me in! I know of two charities

Well, I have the address of the office of the Pediatric Aids
Foundation here in LA... or to be exact, in Santa Monica. We could send
the money to that charity if everyone's agreeable to that.

Okay, well if we really want to do this, I'd be most happy to act as the
"clearing house" for this. But I kinda hafta know a couple of things
first:

1) WHICH charity do we want to donate to? I'm kind of partial to the
Pediatric Aids Foundation myself. But I think we all should agree on one.

2) Did Ron go by the last name of "Spiner", or did he stick with "Mintz"?
I thought I heard that he kept Mintz, but I wasn't sure... I'd hate to
make a terrible faux pas on this one.

Anyway, if we do want to do this, I'll be glad to obtain the information
on the charity, set up an account for donations, etc, and see it through.
Please email me privately if you are interested.

Pam,
I think this a wonderful idea. Gets our focus off of our petty

sick of that moldy oldie Tin Pan Alley boring crap! (NO, kiddies, OYE
was *not* Broadway show tunes!

How about Chris Isaak's"Wicked Games" or covers of Roy Orbison
tunes or "You Send Me", a Sam Cooke classic.

And how about a listing of funny, smartass songs too? Huh?

As there are...? Examples! :)

Oh, sorry, I should read the whole message:

>"You Send Me" during a CNN interview a few years back

Who did that song in the first place? And what kind of song is it?

Did anybody record that CNN interview?

I must be really old-fashioned, because I enjoy singing "It's a sin to
tell a lie", I think it's a very sensual song, and, apart from that, my
repertoire is limited through the timbre of my voice. For example, I love
some hard rock tunes, and I'd really like to sing songs like Van Halen's
"Dreams", but I simply don't have the voice for it.

Maybe Brent thinks he has the same problem - I can't tell if he really has
it, because I never heard him singing any non-Broadway or Tin Pan Alley
stuff, but usually it's not possible to do all kinds of genres well (there
are a few outrageously talented exceptions, like the wonderful German
singer Nina Hagen who does everything from Opera to Rock and has a voice
which is incredibly versatile and convincing in every type of song). One
of the best bad examples was the opera singer who did John Lennon's
"Imagine" at the 30 anniversary Star Trek Gala. Great voice, great song,
but both together a pain in the neck.

I can't picture him doing any Joe Cocker stuff, for example.

Sam Cooke did it originally. It's a moldy oldie R&B tune, very sensual
and plenty of emotion.

<>Did anybody record that CNN interview?<>

Unlikely since CNN didn't air the piece.

<>I must be really old-fashioned, because I enjoy singing "It's a sin to

Well, you know, to each her own. But what I'm saying is .... we've heard
all that so I'd like something different next time. IF there is a next
time. :)

Also, Brent did at least two "rock musicals" (and Doors tunes in high
school) so his voice must be able to carry it off. Brent as Jim
Morrison???
Gawd, the mind boggles! :)

<> For example, I love some hard rock tunes, and I'd really like to sing

Ah ... you assume I want him to do hard rock? Oh no! His voice isn't
suited
for that. Plus, I'm not a fan of that genre either. (This is only my
opinion, folks!)

<>I can't picture him doing any Joe Cocker stuff, for example.<>

Nope. No one can do Joe except Joe himself! Brent wouldn't do well to do
any Rod Stewart either ....

Actually, this entire discussion is moot! Brent will do what he damn well
pleases anyway! Am I right? :)

Peace, Chickadees.

Thought it was supposed to be standards not neccessarily Broadway show
tunes. The moldy oldie Tin Pan Alley crap wins hands down over all the
brain dead modern garbage any day. But then it helps if you don't have a
voice to sing the modern stuff.

OB. who adores Tin Pan Alley and show tunes

And then there's Harry Nillson's "You're Breaking My Heart" .... you
all know the other line of the refrain, don't you? Heh-heh-heh-heh.

My first pick would be for "You'll Never Know" (Dick Haymes) ... goes
something like this ... "You'll never know how much I love you ... you'll
never know how much I care ..."

Well said. I think everyone here cares about Mr. Spiner on a personal level,
even if it may not always show or get lost in the unreality...
It is always a great blow to lose someone you're close to.
