origins of "pitt"

Being as I live in the 'burgh, I'm a little embarrassed that I did not think
of this before, but:

Does anyone know the origins of Brad's family name, "Pitt"?
Is our baby any distant relation to Sir, (I think) William Pitt, for whom
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania is named??

Sure would be cool for me if he were. Kinda like a karmic connection, dontcha
think? Maybe I could . . . .
