How so?
(I'm not saying you're wrong; I'm just curious as to your reasons.)

"I'm *not* a kid! Nyyyeaaah!" - Skuld (in "Oh My Goddess!" OAV #3)
"When I became a man, I put away childish things, including the fear
of childishness and the desire to be very grown-up." - C.S. Lewis
The "Illegal Army" episode is still the best one. And im not saying
that as "its like saying this crap is better than the others, but
still crap", i mean its as good as "why is it in Crash in the first
place?" The animation, sound and design are really good. When i first
saw this, i wanted to see the rest of Crash because I based the idea
off this episode, then found online, it wasnt that great other than
this episode.
The second one is just Priss babysitting a robot, and the final
one...well, i dont wanna spoil anything, but there was parts that were
really bad, so bad that i laughed (like the unecessary close up of
Priss). If i had to rip on one thing about the final episode, it was
the quality of the animation, thats pretty much the worst thing that
stuck out to me (there was others, but that got to me more).
If your going to see it, check out Illegal Army.
I gave Ep 1 a try. This is pretty much what I typed while watching:
It was pretty clean looking, but then my copy of the original OVA is a
compressed VHS rip snarflled of the pirate bay. It takes a few minutes
to get itself spooled up, but never really gets running. It never
feels like it has the energy of the original OVA... I dunno... it's
not bad as such, it's just not as good. The music didn't have the
energy to pull the story along, to make the battle sequences fly....
it's more in the background than anything
I liked the hardsuit designs, and Megatokyo is well realised in the
background. George Bush runs the ADPolice.... "No more cuts' to the
tune of 'No more taxes'. Tachikawa just can't get pissed, and it's
quite clear the Nené fans won out in the studio. The KnightWing takes
off in a very subtle blaze of floodlights.... awesome but somewhat
impractical for a secret organisation
It really does feel like something that was interrupted. And that
when they tried to get back into the swing of it, they failed.
Everyone's *trying* but the rhythm's gone, it's just not coming
together just right.
And I'm probably restating what's been said a hundred other posts over
the last 15 years or so, but anyway. I wonder though, if it didn't
suffer a little from Vista-itis... with so much bad press I went in
looking for the negatives, rather than the positives. Perhaps... but
at the same time, it just wasn't as interesting as the original OVA's
for some reason.
There were things I liked.... the ADP recruitment ad, the Cyber-kun...
the little universe details that built up the world. And a digital
newscaster who'se an obvious knockoff of M-m-max Head-d-d-droom.
I'll watch the other two out of curiousity whenever I pull them off
the net.

(20:46:12) Dartz: Crash is.... hmmm....
(20:46:17) Dartz: Very clean looking
(20:46:46) Dartz: That's what strikes me. But then what I got is a VHS
rip
(20:59:56) Dartz: Bubblegum Crash 1 isn't bad... it's just
(21:00:05) Dartz: I don't quite know how to put it
(21:00:13) Dartz: It reminds me of teenage ninja turtles
(21:00:51) Antagonist85: Haha
(21:01:13) Dartz: I'm not quite sure why
(21:01:23) Dartz: The hardsuit designs are interesting
(21:01:33) Dartz: The scenery is nice
(21:01:33) Antagonist85: Hehe
(21:01:42) Dartz: the computer generate OP was ambitious
(21:02:18) Dartz: But Tachikawa just can't get pissed
(21:02:25) Antagonist85: :P
(21:03:17) Dartz: and it's obvious the studio was dominated by
Nené fans
(21:06:04) Dartz: music doesn't have the same energy either
(21:06:10) Dartz: It does feel really half-hearted
(21:06:35) Antagonist85: Yeah, that's what all the others say as well.
Plus, a lot of us hate the character design...
(21:07:13) Dartz: Priss looks younger and more childish somehow
(21:07:17) Dartz: Nené looks older
(21:07:24) Dartz: Sylia is.... mellower
(21:07:29) Antagonist85: :P
(21:09:21) Antagonist85: Yeah
(21:09:23) Antagonist85: Anyways
(21:09:33) Dartz: Plot of OVA 1 is pretty decent though...
HaHaHa, we see your convo now!!!
Yea, i got a VHS rip ages ago off Kazaa, but its not that bad. I need
to rewatch it again i guess, but your probably right about most of
everything you said, but to me i still liked it to an extent, and your
talking to someone who thought Transformers 2 was pretty good in its
own way, so that says something about me.
Still for me, im glad i got the DVD to Crash as part of the
collection. But your not missing out on too much on the other 2
episodes, but since you saw this ep, you might as well see the rest,
and its not going to be to pretty.
Alright, onto OVA 2
I'm somewhat dissapointed that they're using the same OP. Haynes
reminds me of someone I know.. . Starts good though, real good. It
drags you into the plot better than Illegal Army. The sparse music
seems to fit with Yuri. The animation though is a little flat, a
little colourless... So far though, I'm liking this. And then Priss
forgets about Sylvie somehow. It's really jarring actually, when you
think about it.
Adama sounds so much like Shinji Ikari, it's almost funny. The
flashing screen of ominousness is obviously Largo.... I think this is
when things start to go downhill. The music just isn't as interesting.
There's some flashes of 'what might've been', a nice gunfight on the
train, the opening 5 or so minutes... then it just starts to drag
again, and starts to sink..
They reuse quite a bit on animation... with the same backing music,
maybe I'm noticing it more than the original OVA... it's starting to
feel like 'lets just finish this off as quickly and cheaply as
possible'. They reuse the OP song so many times it's just.....
uggh....
It's dissapointing, because it could've been awesome... they were real
flashes of what might've been.
One more thing? how did the KnightWing get 800 metres underground?
-Dartz
Firstly, is it just me, or did Sylia's car go from white in Crash1, to
Red?
Maybe she doesn't like him BECAUSE he reminds her a lot of Sylvie.
But...yeah...
> Adama sounds so much like Shinji Ikari, it's almost funny.
Whoa, you're right, I hadn't thought about that o_O

I dunno, I like the final battle between Priss and the Iron Lizard
^_^* Though part of it could be due to "Fly Away" playing in the
background.
> They reuse quite a bit on animation... with the same backing music,

Crisis did reuse some, but it's not so obvious there. And also, some
of the BGM in Crash originated from ADPF if you listen closely. (And
no, I don't have a life, thanks for asking ^_^)

Maybe the elevator Priss and Adama were on went high enough to take
them above ground. Only thing I can think of.

Yes, yes it did ;) And you may actually wanna watch the ending
credits for all three, there's a little bit of extra stuff at the end
of those.
Amanda
It's possible alright.... Nothing good has happened to Priss because
of boomers, right?
Fly Away itslef isn't a problem.... it's not a bad song. It's just
that it and 'Cool eyes' are pretty much the only decent tunes, and
they're repeated quite noticeably. ADP music was used aswell?... I was
wondering why some of it sounded so familiar.
Each major scene in the original OVA had it's own theme music, more or
less. If there was repetition, it certainly didn't seem as obvious.
When Fly Away kicked in, it was so obviously a repeat... I felt
somewhat cheated by that. I mean, we went from 'Victory seque-ing into
Touchdown to Tommorow" to Fly Away repeated into ADP buzzing sound
thing"
It's to explain... I know it seems silly... but it's very distracting
and jarring... like power-up theme music from a JRPG, or a cheap
weekly series.
I may steel the basic premise of the first 2 ep's however for my
fanfic.... if only because there really is the bare bones of something
cool..
-Dartz
I didn't see ADPF till 2002, and I think even on my first viewing I
was like "Waaaait a minute, I know this music..." :D

I can name off a few instances, but then I might make you paranoid ;)

Gah, now my mind has been tainted by the thought of FFVII victory
music playing after Priss defeats the Iron Lizard....thanks a lot x_X;

In BGZ Bert considered Crash canon...at least up through the beginning
of 2, then stuff went in a radically different direction, and Meltdown
didn't happen at all. So I'm curious to see what you'll come up with
for poor Meg ^_^
Amanda
Dudes and dudettes...you don't have a life. And that coming from the likes
of me is...pathetic. Yeah.
Also, yup, I'm very interested myself which way you'll take the Yours
Truly 2032 stoeyline.
Antagonist
Dartz... get ready to rant on OVA 3, your going to love it!!! Just
read what i briefly read and you will see.
Sorry for the late reply. I've got university lectures again, so I
don't have much time at disposal as before.
Where should I start? Crash is a failure on many levels; an inferior
production to Crisis. The animation quality that improved in Crisis
episode by episode, now faltered to crude, plain drawings. One of
lowest points was in Illegal Army. Sylia looked hideous when she
communicated to Nene in the game parlor, and her fashion taste
worsened. I dare to say, Born To Kill had higher production values. I
could go on about the hardsuits, boomers, etc, but it's already said
on many BGC fan sites, and I agree on most points.
One thing I give more weight is plot and characters. A show can pass
for me if it has an excellent story, irrelevant of animation. This is
where I enjoy picking Crash apart. The entire story arc attempts to
close the Sylia/Largo plot left unfinished in Crisis. It does it with
abject ineptness, leaving a large sense of dissatisfaction and scam,
as viewers felt there was something more enticing and complex behind
the presented in Moonlight Rambler and Red Eyes.
Largo, a charismatic antagonist in Crisis, is reduced to an
"ecological terrorist" as someone put it, looking now as a pulp
villain. His interest in Sylia is just a petty fascination, not
motivated at least partially by whatever backstage games there were at
Uizu laboratories, culminating in Sylia's data disk receival and
Mason's transformation to Largo.
Another bad part is Katsuhito's dream of humans and boomers living
together. He appeared like an idealistic fool rather than a goodminded
scientist, wishing to improve everyday living by new technology, that
got crushed by corporate greed. Everyone holding up to such
stupidities and lofty bunkum deserves Mason's bullet.
Next to Sylia, other Knight Sabers don't pass any better. Linna is
still background, but without her caring side. Nene gets some more
spotlight, but in a bad way, making her a capable fighter, something
her character is not supposed to be. Priss is butchered beyond
recogntion.*
Only thing I like about Crash is the vocal music, and my only
consolations is that it still fares better than today's anime crap.
That's about it. There are many more things to be said, but I have no
more energy to spend on this rant.
Alemann
*The common complaint is Priss's strange hatred of boomers in Geo
Climbers. When did she ever stop hating boomers? She loved Sylvie and
Anri as individuals, not as boomers. She didn't had any problems
attacking Largo, hyperboomers, or Miriam's cyberdroids.
Oh God.
Why did I watch *that*?
At least... at least Brumm Barr looks cool. The only other redeeming
moment is DJ Tommy. I liked Max Headroom
And now you know, now you are finally one of the few to realize Crash
in all its glory. Nothing but binge drinking can fix what you saw.
But id admit, the best part about the last episode was the random zoom
in to Priss for no reason, that had me in stitches.
Mhhh, binge drinking :D
I'd love to say something more constructive, but I'm torn between not
enduring that show again and refreshing my memory of it.
What's more, I'm all out of liquor. And beer.
> Adama
Am I weird for immediately thinking of Bill or Lee upon Adama's
mention? Or have I just been watching too much BSG?
No, not at all.
BSG is what happens after the cyl.... boomers revolt, after all.
