Yoiks. $250.00???? I thought $100.00 was a pretty significant price
a few years ago --- and not a price I could talk any of my civilian
friends into paying. Wonder how his sales will go with that venue.
As much as I like Barry, there is no way I'd shell out $250.00 either.
Saw Sir Elton John in my hometown for around $80.00 this past week. 2
hours, 40 minutes -- no costume changes, no other musician solos,
friendly communication with the audience -- it was a great show. (He
dedicated the song "Believe to Sen. George McGovern -- who he said he
got to meet that day, never thought he'd ever get to meet him and
seemed genuinely impressed and glad to meet him. Elton mentioned that
his dog, Arthur, was from SD -- so he takes a little piece of SD with
him where ever he goes. I thought both those items he mentioned were
pretty cool and endearing.) (It does tickle me that an entertainer
can talk about his dog and even mention it by name -- esp. when Barry
is so secretive about his dog or dogs.)
I think Elton can and does charge more in larger cities, but here he
sold out here in the first 19 minutes of sales. Those of us with
tickets were considered pretty lucky.
One hour away, in Mitchell during Corn Palace week, Weird Al tickets
were $30.00 and local folks there were not sure about paying $30.00
for any kind of concert ticket ... which I found a bit amusing.
I don't think Barry could try to pull off and have a successful show
here with the higher price range. Again, it'll be interesting to see
how sales do go.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band are on tour right now. I've
seen him several times and he puts almost three hours into performing
on any given night. The highest ticket price is $95. This is a very
acceptable price for a night of music and passion. $250 on the other
hand is utterly ridiculous for a show that will probably only run 90
minutes if you're lucky.

You are so lucky! I'd love to see Bruce in concert and I've heard he
just puts on a heck of a show. I don't think Bruce has ever been to
our neck of the woods, though.
In college, there was a guy from NY that had a Cadillac Ranch sign up
in his third floor window. :-)

I used to hate when The ticket scalpers took advantage of people and
charged them these kinds of prices for Barry's shows..now it seems it's
Barry himself doing it. or at least he's allowing it to be done. I know a
show like his can't be cheap to put on but this is one long time Manilow
fan that is gonna sit these shows out. "final tour" or not.

Bruce was the only concert I was wishing it would end before it was over.
don't get me wrong it was a good show but it was TOO long! he sang ALL of
the many hits that I like and 2hours more of stuff i Didn't care for. lol
after 3 plus hours I was ready for it to be over!

show that wwell, but in arena shows, you have these giant TV screens so
you miss nothing of what Barry does on stage and to me is a real bargain.
I have sat in the worse seats in the house in shows with these big screens
and never felt that I was missing out on anything. Marvin

money for a concert. There are too many other things I need or want to be
able to justify it. I am blessed to live a fairly comfortable life, but
$500 for two seats is a lot of money to me.
On the other hand, if you figure the cost of air fare and lodging, maybe
$99-$250 a (decent) seat would be cost effective if he was traveling to a
town near you!!
I think Marv has a great attitude about the $9.99 seats - and you have to
love them that they're offering seats at that low price. But I guess I've
gotten old and if I'm gonna watch a screen, I'd rather do it from home
watching a DVD of one of his shows - even if there is nothing like a live
show.
I guess I'll live in the past and just remember the concerts from the
olden days (before the cover art), which are wonderful memories.
I do hope any of you that decide to go to any of the shows on the "non
tour" have a wonderful experience and post and tell us all about it.
Kind of off-topic, what do you all think about the Hannah Montana/Miley
(sp) Cyrus tickets? My sister managed to get 2 (really bad) tickets for
$54 each for her 12 yo daughter. They weren't able to get enough tickets
for everyone who wanted to go - her daughter's friends and mothers (who
also tried and were too late - the tickets sold out in 10 minutes).
She's since been offered $250 each for them. Rather endearingly, she was
on "Ellen" and when asked what she thought about the scalpers charging
$250 a ticket, she said she felt bad for her fans - and that she tries to
put on a good show, but it's not worth $250 and hates to see people spend
that much money. Ironic, isn't it? In fairness, I daresay Barry's show
costs a lot more to produce and he puts on quite a show. Sigh.

because that $10 isn't "really" gonna be $10 when you're done. some places
charge up to $20 for parking.. so your $10 has just become $30. add a trip
to the concession stand and even for a couple of sodas you're gonna spend
another $10. want a t-shirt or program? even one of them will set you back
at least $15 more. so your $10 seat has just become $55 or more and you
can't even see Barry's face except on a monitor and what if the monitor is
obstructed as I've seen them be by speakers etc?
while $10 might seem like a nice "gesture" it's still not a bargain.
I have a feeling that that $10 price is more to fill the arenas than it is
to help longtime fans get tickets. they know people will pay outrageous
prices and they're taking advantage of that. I won't do it. I've reached my
limit. to those of you that will congrats and enjoy the show. I wish I
could be there with you but my landlord needs his rent.

For me its not whether or not I have the money, its just the matter
that I don't feel the show is worth that much money. $100 for a really
good seat is about all I'm willing to pay--for anyone or anything. If
*I'm* unrealistic, then *I* will be sitting home a lot, I guess.

Reb -- you can add Kenny G to that list for me! We saw him years (and
years ago!) in Upstate NY at an outdoor (NY State Fair) show over Labor
Day weekend. The weather had turned cooler at night, and I didn't think to
bring a jacket or sweater, as we spent the day at the fair. The longer he
held those "last" notes was agonizing. We finally left before the end of
the show.

I may just by the cheap seats for DC. The ticket cost (plus $3 metro
costs) will get me in the venue, and I may go to Chicago to see him there
the week before. Some friends are moving there and have invited me out
that weekend.
I spent $270 for a friend's ticket to the Philly show, and I won't do it
again. I'll drop $200 to see Barry in Vegas, but it's 75 minutes of all
Barry - no opening act, no people going back and forth to the beer stands,
and you're in Vegas!
I won't spend it for an arena tour.

Barry kinda has me spoiled. I've always love his shows. no one is better
live. the music is great but I really love when he throws some humor into
the show. I've seen a lot of concerts through the years and no one even
comes close..but I'm still not paying $250 a seat. ;-)

Drunks are everywhere. My lady and I saw the show in Vegas last summer
(2006), one of the last shows right before he cancelled prior to his
hip surgery. A woman three seats away from us was falling down drunk.
We spent the majority of the time keeping one eye on her, waiting for
her to either barf or fall over the edge of the balcony. She left
partway through the show. We found it very distracting.
We agree that Barry's show prices are too high. We're still going to
the show in the Meadowlands regardless. Does it irritate me that we
paid over $500 for two seats, through the fan club, in the 16th row?
Yes. But we aren't going to Vegas again so if you calculate what it
would have cost us in airfare, hotel, meals and extras, it's a bargain
in comparison.

vacation for most people and you expect to spend money when you're on
vacation. you plan for it. I happy for you that you're going. I'm sure
you'll have a great time! I wish I could do it too but it's outta my

Reb, I have to partly agree with you. When you go on vacation you do
expect to spend money, and $200 for a show in Vegas isn't out of the
norm, from what I hear. My boss paid more for seats at Celine Dion's
show, I know that.
But I also partly see nf's point - I think he's saying that by Barry
doing arena shows it saves some fans the price of flying to Vegas and
all that goes with it. If they have an opportunity to have a choice,
an arena show in their own backyard makes a lot of sense in comparison
to flying to Vegas.
My husband has no desire to go to Vegas so it doesn't appear I'll ever
get to see the show there. That only leaves me the opportunity to see
an arena show. Like nf I'm spending a crapload of money to see Barry
in the Meadowlands, and it's way too expensive. That's why, even
though it's only the second time for me to see Barry perform live,
it'll probably be the last time. It's difficult to justify spending
this amount of money over and over again. Did it twice, and that's
enough.
I don't know how some fans can go to the shows repeatedly, paying
premium ticket prices. Good for them if they have the income to do it.
Frankly, even if I did have the money to do it, I doubt if I would
just on principle alone. It's too much money. All those years when I
couldn't afford the $15 and $25 tickets, had anyone ever told me I
would one day shell out $250 bucks for a ticket I would have called
them crazy. Now I think I'm the one who must be crazy for spending
it!
