Hey Reb
what makes you think he's lipping it? I'm not actually seeing that,
and I'm seeing his adams apple moving with the ups and downs of his
voice- what are we missing?
You bored again Reb? lol
This is the Barry Manilow smile I miss - at 1:17 when he sings "I can
promise you this....this is gonna be good." I used to tell my kids
(when we saw him on TV) 'he is so happy when he sings'. His infectious
grin spread to his eyes, and his whole face lit up. Made me smile when
I saw it.
And Reb, are we watching the same video? ;-)
Junie,
For me The Greek version of Weekend In New England is the best I've
seen. The effort he puts into that one amazes me. Just watching it
leaves me knackered! lol
Here you go!! :O)

Back in the day, everything was about music and passion. I love the
respect the crowds show Barry also. It was a different time.
Now........(fill in as you see fit).
I'm just going to assume you're joking, and you're pulling an April
Fools prank three days late.
John
P.S. This is one of my all-time favorite "live" Manilow performances.
How I LOVE this performance!
Thanks for the smile Reb. I sure miss that guy. :-) Now, the
jumpsuit? Notsomuch.
Jackie
Look at his face then and his face now...he doesn't even look like the
same person. The Greek Theater video is one of my favorites because I
saw him live for the first time in 1978.
Donna G
If you look at pictures of me from the 70's and 80's. I don't look
like the same person, either. 30 years changes most people's looks.
It's not like you look at a picture of him now and say "Who's that?"
CA Sharon
It's not recorded on an album track (as far as I know) -- and he's an
admitted lousy lip syncher (saw him try to lip synch once -- and it
wasn't pretty).
Yep, he doesn't look like that any more. I don't look like I did when
I was in the audience in 1982 either. Do I want someone to constantly
harp on that? (um, NO).
He's the one that has to be happy in his own skin -- and if he's happy
looking in the mirror every day, I will accept that ... with a silent
prayer that he will add more color to his wardrobe.
This performance is joyful and one of my absolute favorites!
Thank you for sharing this, even if your intent was to criticize.

Oh, cool, Reb -
The very first song I ever heard at my very first concert on my very
first tour.
Sigh .... he was such a baby then.
And I, of course, was a newborn. :-)
Thanks for the trip down M-Lane.
Brenda
I know we all change over the years, but he's had "help" over the
years that has changed the whole structure of his face. If he's happy
with the way he looks, more power to him.
I was just stating an opinion.
Donna G
and so was I.

LMAO, you daft bugger.
Great vintage video nonetheless! Surprised they'd do lipping with a
full back up crew of singers and live musicians- the ol' adams apple
didn't move much but if he was lipping, it wasn't a bad job.
> actually no..i posted the wrong link...sorry.

Reb -
I think you've posted the wrong link again.
I too can't imagine he'd have the band & back-up singers LIVE - yet
he'd be lip-syncing?
How 'bouts you remove yourself from youtube and your keyboard for a
bit, and take a nice rest? lol ;-)

it's the right one this time and he isn't singing. watch just before he
starts to play the sax...he is still singing but his lips aren't even
moving lol

OK - I do see AND hear the discrepancy. Guess I just don't want to
believe it. Maybe it's a case of the audio not matching up with the
old video tape? A frame or two missing from vintage video tape? Or a
hiccup in the space-time continuum? I respectfully remain skeptical on
this one... ;-)
This video says it is Top of The Pops but it isn't. It is from a
Saturday evening show on the BBC with a link up with Barry in LA. I
remember watching it. Apparently the backing singers weren't if you
see what I mean. They were a mixture - James Jolis. Muffy? I think -
and whoever was there at the time.

you have the right to do just that ;)
You have made me smile. One little mess up and you are handing out
apologies like flyers! lol Here you go..say it like this....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vs6cep1bWKg May aswell say it in
style.
TBH As far as IWDIWY I do think you're right. "talk about thunder and
lightning" into the sax' pretty much convinces me. It's impossible to
hang on the last note with your mouth around a sax. Well I think it
is. I'll have to try it out some time! lol

...and you returned the favor! thank YOU for the smile!
Reb
This is one of my all time favorites and I would love to see Barry
open a show with this again! So much fun and excitement!
Not sure why anyone would think he is lipsynching this one. He had
enough trouble just walking across the stage back then! ( she says
with love and affection)
Barry, by his own admission, is awful at lip synching. When he isn't
singing, it ain't pretty.
Don't know bout any of you, but no matter how much I tell myself, you
haven't changed a bit..it's a big LIE!! LOL
My face has changed, it's a part of Living! I wish my skin were a
little more taught and I could do with a few less lines and creases,
but "I'M STILL HERE!"
Barry's face has changed as well. Maybe he has had some help with the
changes, but it's still Barry. As long as he is happy and healthy and
comfortable in his skin, that is all that matters.

You know -- the video is what, 20 years old? I don't think anyone
sang live on those shows then -- just because they had a product to
promote and it was easier (and probably cheaper) just to use album
tracks than hire musicians. Different time -- and, we were probably
just happy to see Barry on the television -- lipsynching or not.
Today, it seems like some artists lipsynch on purpose (Britany Spears,
perhaps?) so they can dance and sing at the same time.

Barry usually did sing live though. probably 98% of the time.
