3 UK Shows Done

Manchester last night was fantastic and the arena was very full and the whole crowd was there with Barry every step of the way. He seemed really happy and when he left they slowed the car down so he could wave which was great for us and made a lovely change from the normal race away. It's little things like that that make it all extra special.

Lorna Luft was also in the car but didn't take part in the concert.

One thing that is interesting is that he has done exactly the same songs all three nights so far - we thought if he changed any it would be Manchester but it appears not - which is unusual, especially with Barry commenting on how the smaller band make it easier to change things.

The band are doing are great job too, as are Kye and Muffy. We're just sad that we're now more than half through the UK & Ireland 'not a tour'.

Hi Sheila, we must have been posting at the same time. I too was surprised he didn't change the show for Manchester but as this was the only one I could see it was new to me. Perhaps he is saving his energy for the shows rather than the rehearsals. He didn't sit and chat either at the end like he usually does. But that doesn't take anything away from a great show.

I think Barry is kinda like my old computer. It can still perform,
but I gotta remember there's only so much memory and hard drive space
to work with.

If Barry is limping by the end of these shows, then it makes sense
that, as you so astutely put it, he's saving his energy for the shows
rather than the rehearsals.

But, limping or not, he sounds like he's having fun, and I'm glad you
and Sheila did too. I'm sure it's an added joy for him to have Lorna
there.

Hi Irene
Greta minds and all that! The show is fab and Barry is in very good voice and putting his heart and soul into it. It's funny what your friends said (on your other post) as we like the Manchester show best for atmosphere (and love in the room) with Birmingham a close second.

We all agree though that it is so lovely to see Barry!

Correct me if I am wrong KM, but I think KM was alluding to the fact, that this could be blown out of proportion in that Barry and Lorna are an item? You know what the UK tabloids are like, full of shite, and love to make rumours up.

Lorna Luft is married. She moved to PS with her husband a few years
back. Maybe she is there because she has some employment/offer over
there. Also Barry tends to have a taken woman with him to ease off on
the gay talk. Someone has to take the place of the Barry and Keely
thing now that she isn't working with him. For the past few years it
was either Keely, Suzanne Sommers or Lorna Luft with him. All 3 women
have men of their own.

I'm sure they're no worse the the US rags that linked him romantically to the porn star Robin Byrd (weren't they supposed to be getting engaged, according to the article? LOL).

Marvin: And Barry has been good for Lorna's career and self-esteem as
well. Barry convinced Lorna to do a concert on the songs her mother
made famous, and Lorna was outstanding in recreating much of Judy
Garland's famous songs sounding more like Judy than her more famous
half sister Liza. Barry also produced the soundtrack album to go with
the show.
Undoubtedly, Lorna went to Barry's show in Manchester to
offer support and is not feeling well herself. She had to cancel her
three week run in Boston of starring in "Hello Dolly" this month
because of a back injury in which she has to wear a brace. Hopefully,
she will back to good health soon. Marvin

So, not really that great for bearding, since they clearly have other
guys in their lives. Someone ought to clue him in that beards are far
more convincing when they're single and available! ;)

when they can be with men who can reciprocate their romantic feelings.
Some people think having a "beard" is cruel to the woman who wants a

That program is called Car Talk with Click and Clack. It's on
public radio. We get it on our local NPR station on Saturdays
around 11AM or 12PM.

Romantic love is SO overrated.

I know plenty of women who would take a good friend - gay or straight
- over a boyfriend any day of the week.

If I need romance, I know where my Manilow CDs are. :-)

conceal a gay identity by making up a pretend girlfriend and the fans
of the celebrity think the woman is his girlfriend, odds are good that
the woman would be annoyed at her friend calling her his girlfriend

Not necessarily. I have a gay male friend who was closeted at work, as he had a job that frowned upon alternative lifestyles. He would occasionally take me to company events and we had a great time. Once you agree to go as a "beard", there's no reason to be annoyed about what people think, since you're trying to mislead them in the first place. [He's since changed jobs and is now "out" at work, so his partner accompanies him (as it should be). No more free dinners for me!]

I have one gay male friend with whom I was so close that when we were
together, people *assumed* we were married. And yes, he used this to
his advantage several times (with my complete knowledge and blessing).
