Mr. Manilow shared this post on facebook:

I've just read in the social network that there's a possibility that Barry includes Havana in his tour... they say that some Cuban musicians who are close to Barry have been told about it... They say it would be at Havana biggest theater (Karl Marx)...could this possibly be true !!!! Manilow has so many fans here !!! There are so many important American musicians and performers coming to Cuba lately, and even though there are important names in the list, Manilow just make a difference...One great show man who needs not of sophisticated technology to convince the public: just a bunch of excellent musicians, his splendid voice and his charisma to communicate with the audiences... In his concerts you will for sure experience joy, fun, deep emotions and can even shed one tear or two !!!! Wish this could come true...If it is so, I will sincerely try to do my best to be a witness of such a happening!!!! Does anybody know if this piece of news is true????

Well, I have to say, that's one place I won't be heading.

I have mixed feelings about Barry going to Cuba that is still under the dictatorship of Castro. I know the Pope was there and that there is some diplomatic relationship that the US now has with Cuba that it did not have in the past. Still, I hate the idea that Barry going there makes it seem that he is in support of the dictatorship of Castro there, even though I am sure he does not support the Castro government. It is of course not as bad as Barry going to Iran, but going to Cuba is not like going to a nation that is friendly to Americans.
If Barry wants to perform at an exotic place, why not go to Australia, the Bahamas or Israel. Marvin

It would be great if it is true. I just hope it's not speculation or an attempt to stage a concert then it gets cancelled like the Australian tour of a few years ago. Too many people get their hopes up then get disappointed.

The post was written by a fan who started the rumor. The post was not from camp Manilow.

Yes but the official Barry facebook page posted the fans comments which seems a bit odd to me. They also posted someone writing about the Glastonbury rumour.. It would seem a very strange strategy to post rumours you know aren't happening - the fan club then becomes no better than the rest of us for reliable Barry info.
But what do I know??

I doubt the rumor is true (maybe they're just floating the idea to see if there is any interest?). However, I agree with Dee; I think it would be great fun to hear him sing about the hottest spot IN Havana! :)

Marvin, I disagree that Barry visiting Cuba would suggest support for Castro's regime. It's been over 50 years since the cold war; Cuba and the United States restored diplomatic relations a few months ago. Fidel has ceded power to his brother, and the Cuban people are very warm and friendly.

However, there's still a lot of poverty, and I have to wonder how many Manilow fans would be there, if for no other reason than importing his albums would have been restricted by the embargo.

I agree Sheila. Why retweet something from your official Twitter account to your official Facebook account on a whim.
The thought of Barry at Glastonbury gives me nightmares - singing to 60,000 people, half of whom barely know who you are and the other half only knowing Copa. It's been a giant sing-along in recent years but you can't sing along if you don't know the songs!
Of course they might just be having a laugh.

Hi Irene
Actually I think he'd probably be OK at Glastonbury in the Sunday afternoon spot. Barry did really well in Proms in the Park and I think the audience are more forgiving these days and ready to accept so-called less cool acts who are good pop. (I don't think he's less cool obviously!)
With regards to the fan club 'news', the way the site has been run recently does make me wonder if they've lost their co-ordinator / online assistant as things do seem to have gone a bit off the rails lately. If they are 'joking' with the Cuba and Glastonbury messages then shame on them, it's not what they should be doing. I feel quite grumpy about this as it makes me feel they're taking us for fools.

Upon reflection, I see the wisdom of your thoughts Suzan. Although there is no democracy and lots of poverty in Cuba, perhaps the 50 year plus old boycott the US had with Cuba did not do anything to achieve democracy in Cuba.
I recall when Gorbachev met with Reagan and we had diplomatic relationships with the old Soviet Union, that the wall of communism fell and Russia and other Soviet states became more like the Western nations and today there are free elections in Russia and greater prosperity there.
Perhaps with the new Cuba-US diplomatic relationship with travel allowed between the two nations, this should lead to more economic prosperity in Cuba and hopefully a movement to a free and democratic Cuba. Thanks for your post. Regards, Marvin

As you just said, the Pope went there. Do you think he supports a dictatorship?

Just going there isn't the same as supporting Castro. Other people live in Cuba! ;)
