It was interesting to read that sales for Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline" went up this week when Neil performed the song live at Fenway Park last week. "Sweet Caroline" has been played at the ballpark during the seventh inning stretch and has become Boston's unofficial national anthem. Neil decided to donate this week's royalty sales of "Sweet Caroline" to charities in Boston.
It makes me wonder if sales for Barry's "Weekend In New England" would go up if Barry performed the song during a baseball game at Fenway Park or at a basketball or hockey game at Boston's TD Garden. Barry's song mentions New England more than any other song I know. Barry's original lyrics to "It's A Miracle" also mention "From Boston to Denver", so maybe Barry can inspire Boston by singing those songs there. Marvin

Weekend in New England is a waltz/ballad/love song. I can't imagine a bunch of beer-fueled Red Sox fans singing that one at the ballpark.

On the other hand, "It's a Miracle" has potential, depending on how the Sox's season is going! (ha ha)

What about Everything's Gonna Be Alright from 15 Minutes? When
I got to Consol Energy Center last Friday the newer version was
being played in the loby. Then again after the show it was being
played in the venue.

Almost everybody who is anybody knows "Sweet Caroline" -- it's a
cheerful song that the audience can participate with. "Everhing/All
Right" isn't nearly as well known and people wouldn't know to sing
along. You'd almost have to live under a rock NOT to know "Sweet
Caroline". Besides, the song, as Neil Diamond states, was written
about Caroline Kennedy -- who has very significant ties to the Boston
area.

Although I haven't been to a game at our DC (Nationals) stadium this
year, I heard that song was being removed from the playlist last year.
Maybe after the events of Boston, they will have reconsidered and put
it back.

But -- coincidentally, 2 of my coworkers were convinced beyond a doubt
that Barry Manilow WAS the singer of Sweet Caroline -- so who knows?
Maybe people already think of it as Barry's!

LOL I've also heard people attribute "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty and the song "If" ("If a picture paints 1000 words....") by Bread to Barry.

It's as bad as people confusing Barry with Rod S. I don't see how they can because they are as different as night and day. They don't even look alike although their hairstyles were similar at one point in time. I almost find it insulting when people say that as I feel Rod can't sing worth a damn. JMO I have never purchased anything he has done.

Didn't Barry do 'IF' on one of his greatest hits cd's (my spell check says it needs an apostrophe) as a bonus cut or something? I seem to remember something pertaining to that but I could be wrong. JW

Give it up, Marvin, ok? WRONG choice of song and why does Barry have to do things other entertainers do? What's done is done as far as Boston is concerned and they have been using 'Sweet Caroline' for a decade now so why should they change it? Barry doesn't have to be a copycat. He's doing very well with all he has done and continues to do. JW

I think it was when Rod was dressed up in similar suits and ties to Barry, with the spiked hair. It even fooled me at a glance. Just on the looks. No way are their voices anything like each other.

I think that Barry and Neil Diamond have been compared for decades, so it is possible that casual fans get confused on who recorded what, eapecially because it is easy to mix up the following grouping of songs:
Mandy (Barry) Sweet Caroline (Neil)
The Old Songs (Barry) Yesterday's Songs (Neil)
Let Freedom Ring (Barry) Coming To America (Neil) Marvin
