I thought it was only fair to point out that there's stinkiness all
over the radio of past and present (and yeah, probably future). Yeah,
Barry's had a few stinkeroonies. But there have been some real turd
bombs dropped onto our listening enjoyment over the last few
decades.

I've decided that as much as I hate, loathe and despise "Memory" (sung
by ANYBODY, mind ... if Jesus came down and sang this song, I'd still
hate it. And no, this isn't blasphemous, He and I have talked this
over and He completely understands), there are some that are
definitely worse.

Anyway ....

Here's a few of mine:

1) 99 Red Balloons - Makes me want to pull out my dart gun. Thank
goodness we don't hear this one too often anymore (except during 80s
hour on the radio), but I hated it then and time has not improved my
association with it.

2) Moves Like Jagger - Let me explain. Hearing "Memory" merely makes
me groan and wonder how fast I can get to the bar and back before the
next song ... whereas "Moves Like Jagger" instantly induces vomiting.
Every nerve ending in my body screams in tortured anguish until I
stampede the radio and switch the station.

And

ANYTHING by Duran Duran - I'd rather listen to an endless loop of
"Memory" than sit through anything by this group, Including the song,
'Happy Birthday Brenda Here's a Million Dollars" (if it existed).
Seriously. They've never released one song that hasn't made me want
to kill myself

I'm sure there's more, but maybe that'll get ya started.

Next?

Oh no, I love "99 Red Balloon"s and EVERYTHING by Duran Duran. But
what do I know, I loved Bananarama! :))

Like you Brenda, I'd rather put hot pockers thru my eyes that listen
to "Memory" sung by anyone!
Also did not care for the later do-be-doo years of Frank SInatra,
especially "That's Life"
I hated "She Drives Me Crazy" by FIne Young Cannibals
I hated "I Ran" by Flock of Seagulls.
You can throw John Denver into that mix (except for the song "Annie")

I, also, love Duran Duran, so I'm just going to leave you to your

opinion.

Most songs really don't bother me, unless they became so popular, that
I had my fill of them, and, for whatever reason, I still feel that
way, even after many years of not hearing them. That "Red Balloons"
songs fits the bill.

As for "Memory", I love the original record that Barry made, but I
don't feel his "live" performances measure up to that record. I don't
dislike the song, however.

What I find interesting is that Manilow fans have such varying tastes
when it comes to other bands/musicians.
(Great example - I hate Duran Duran, you love them. Robin Ann hates
John Denver, but he's one of my all-time favorites).

Because Manilow fans are so different from one another in their
tastes, I believe one could argue Manilow transcends the pop or middle-
of-the-road labels critics have always tried to file him under.
Consequently, his fans transcend the silly "Fanilow" label the critics
embraced in their hopes of lumping us all into one like-mindless group
of adoring, sap-happy, emotionally overblown morons.

Maybe someday they'll figure out Barry is about a lot more than all
that, as are his fans.

I'm with Brenda on John Denver. I discovered him before Barry Manilow.
The arists that make me cringe are the Bee Gees, Beach Boys and Frankie
Valli and Four Seasons.

Someone should set U2's instruments on fire.

Coldplay should be locked up and their instruments set on fire.

John Mayer should be set on fire.

Hi, KM
Hi, KM -

I Still can't believe Melanie left Barry to go with John Mayer. She said she wanted to travel and now I don't know if she is still with Mayer or not since he has been having throat and voice issues. Maybe she is missing Barry now since he is going all over the place? Does anyone know? I don't like the guy at all and I hear he is a real jerk.

I solved the problem of having to listen to all the crap on the radio by not listening to the radio anymore. In fact I haven't listened to the radio in several years. I like who I like and only listen to them on my CD player if I want to listen to music. I don't like the way these musical directors on the stations shun some and play the crap out of others. Do they get kickbacks from these record companies and promoters? I wonder....

Bookworm it's all about ratings. High ratings = more revenue for the station. So they all stick to the most popular music/artists for their genre.

On a slightly different note there is a tv commercial that makes me
want to kill myself.
We've all seen it and have heard that stupid stupid song
Hovaround takes me where I want to go, where will it send me? Cut to
a person sitting on the edge of the Grand Canyon in their hovaround
and I'm thinking...with just a little push...
Every time it comes on my husband and I want to puke simultaneously.
I didn't mind the commercial at first then they added that song. This
commercial makes me want to drink and do drugs. Ahg AHG AAHHGG!
Maybe next time I'll tell you all how I really feel LOL

Well, she's an idiot. And I don't even know who she is; knowing she
left Barry to go with John Mayer is all the info I need to make that
judgement.

He seems like a colossal douche to me.

I hardly ever turn on the radio anymore. Though there are some new
artists I like (Adele is made of awesome and win, for example), most
of it's just crap.

Good thread Brenda, ok here is my list.

Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen. This was so long at number 1 in the charts back then, and the video so pants, I hated it when I first heard it, and hate it now. Though I know you may say, genius song.

Broken Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler, yuk, I want to feed her Strepsil throat tablets like I was feeding a slot machine, Gravel Gob is I call her voice, cringe.

I'm going to chime in with Lady In Red and 99 Red Balloons. Either of those songs is a switch the station for me.

I also turn off Come on Eileen ,Tainted Love & I Ran. I'm not a fan of a lot of the 80's one hit wonder music because that "one hit" was played to death.

I love listening to the radio though. I like most mid-70's music( 76-79). I know just about every hit song by hearing the first few notes from those years.

Paula Anka, John Denver, Bee Gees - I love their music.

Marvin: I won't comment on John Mayer's talent or life because I
am not familiar with him.
But just like Barry left Bette for greener pastures,
maybe Melanie felt that working with John Mayer is a career boost for
her- so she is entitled to follow her path in show business.

There's 2 alternate versions of these songs you might like!

The Muppets did a great version of Bohemian Rhapsody! And Ellen
Degeneres and Josh Groban doing Total Eclipse as a duet is totally
"adorkable" (to coin a Josh term!

For those who don't know Melenie Taylor
Melanine Taylor was one of Bette Midler's Harlettes. Melanie worked
with Bette back in the 80's. Melanie left Barry after he finished
his last year at the Hilton. So when Barry started his two year run
at the Paris Muffy Hendricks took Melanie's spot. Just like Melanie
Nyema took Monica Pege's spot when Monica left while Barry was still
at the Hilton.

Bonnie Tyler is like Kim Carnes who did Betty Davis Eyes. They both
has raspy voices when they sing.

Marvin - yes, they are entited to follow their paths but Melanie said she left because she wanted to travel around. And now she is probably doing other gigs while Mayer is tending to his throat and voice. They have to continue to earn a living so they can eat. But WHY she chose Mayer over Barry is a mystery. Of all people! Maybe she got tired of being in one place all the time and needed to spread her wings.

How in the world can leaving Barry (an icon) be a better career move for her when Mayer has a long way to go to be in the same category as Barry? At least with Barry it was a guaranteed paycheck. But, she may be at a point where she wants to do different things and have a variety of choices. It's anyone's guess. I was sorry to see both her and Monica leave.

I don't know how I could have forgotten this one (maybe on purpose) but I think the one at the top of my 'puke' list is "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face". It's just the same melody over and over again and I have to turn it off whenever I hear it. Even the commercials on TV that use that song make me want to gag and I have to mute them.

Oh, I just remembered two more from my personal "puke" list ...

"This Masquerade" ... Oh how I've always hated that song. I learned
to hate it even more when it beat out Barry for a Grammy back in 1970-
whatever.

And

"Killing Me Softly." I don't need to explain.

Oh oh oh .... and one more ...

"Billy Don't Be A Hero" ... worst song ever written, sung, performed,
ick ick ick.
