For many of you that may have loved the music of The Carpenters (in
some ways, the songs sound similiar to Barry Manilow songs, especially
the lush sentimental ballads), a new book on Karen Carpenter titled
"Little Girl Blue" by Randy Schmidt is significant in revealing the
controlling as pects of her life by her family and her mother in
particular.
This is not an authorized biography with little cooperation from
Richard Carpenter, but is less about gossip and more about how part of
Karen's self-destruction of her body came from wanting control of her
life. For someone who was so famous and wealthy so quickly, Karen had
a very limited social life according to the author.
The book is due out this month and is already in some bookstores. For
those of you who are Carpenters fans, you may enjoy this book. Karen
Carpenter to me is one of the five greatest artists in the 20th
century, with the others being Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Neil
Diamond and Barry Manilow. Marvin

Thanks for the heads up. Karen Carpenter is my all time favorite
singer. What a talent and what a sad ending. I truly mourned her
death. No famous person has ever affected me like she did.

Josh Grogan (via Facebook) mentioned the 2010 Hollywood Bowl of Fame
inductees --The Carpenters are honored at the show last night.

2010 Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame

The 2010 Hollywood Bowl Hall of Fame inductees include Donna Summer,
the Carpenters, accepted by Richard Carpenter, and classical pianist
Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Multiple Grammy-winning musician, composer and
producer Herb Alpert will induct the Carpenters and the new Hall of
Famers will perform with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, led by Thomas
Wilkins, in a celebration that kicks off the 2010 Opening Night at the
Hollywood Bowl. Additional presenters and performers will be
announced.

Donna Summer first appeared at the Hollywood Bowl in 1979, performing
to sold-out crowds. She again performed before sold-out crowds when
she appeared at the Bowl for two nights in 2008.

The Carpenters’ relationship with the Hollywood Bowl dates back to
1966, when 16-year-old Karen and 19-year-old Richard won three awards
at the venue’s “Battle of the Bands” contest, an event that launched
the duo’s legendary performing and recording career.

World-renowned pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet first appeared on the
Hollywood Bowl stage in 1989 and has performed at the venue on a
regular basis since.

Proceeds from the evening benefit Music Matters, supporting the Los
Angeles Philharmonic’s education programs. The Hollywood Bowl Hall of
Fame is created and produced by Wayne Baruch and Charles F. Gayton.
