My mother was driving through the San Franciso Bay Area yesterday, and KFRC
was playing a Star Wars version of Copa. It goes through all three movies
and scenes from the movies are played over the singing. Has anyone else
heard it? My father said it sounded like Barry was actually singing.

Mr. Davis, who wrote this song, can't distribute it because he can't get
permission from the publisher nor Barry. Here's the URL to read about
it: http://www.wwa.com/~xene/cantina.html

You can hear the song here:

It does sound like Barry, but if he won't give permission to distribute
it, I sincerely doubt he would have recorded it. :)

Mr. Davis' lyrics are below.

=======================================================================

THE STAR WARS CANTINA
(sung to the tune of "COPACABANA" by Barry Manilow)
Written by Mark Jonathan Davis
Copyright ©1996 Mark Jonathan Davis/Earthquake Entertainment

"Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope" (spoken by Princess
Leia)
Her name was Leia
She was a princess
With a danish on each ear
And Darth Vader drawing near
So R2-D2
Found Ben Kenobi
He'd have to put the Death Star plans
Into the rebellion's hands
So Luke and Obi-Wan
Had to get to Alderaan
So they stopped into Mos Eisley to have a drink with Han

(CHORUS)
at the Star Wars, Star Wars Cantina
The weirdest creatures you've ever seen-a
Here at the Star Wars, Star Wars Cantina
Music and blasters
And old Jedi masters
At the Star Wars....

His name was Solo
He was a pilot
With a blaster at his side
And a smile 12 parsecs wide
There with Chewbacca
He was a wookie
They met with Luke and Obi-wan
About the Millenium Falcon
Docking bay ninety-four
Stormtroopers at the door
With a flash of Ben's light-saber, now there's an arm on the floor

(repeat chorus)

"Mos Eisley spaceport...you will never find the more wretched hive
of scum and villainy. We must be cautious." (spoken by Ben Kenobi)

His name was Yoda
He was a muppet
Darth Vader was so bad
And by the way, he's Luke's dad
Luke kissed his sister
His hand got cut-off
In that galaxy far, far away
Luke has had a lousy day
Boba Fett was so mean
Jabba had bad hygiene
Why didn't they all just relax back on Tatooine

(repeat chorus)

"The force will be with you...always." (spoken by Ben)

This song was used on a local radio show
for a big Star Wars April Fool 's joke. They said it was the big hit that was
being pushed
from the new soundtrack. If they played
it every fifteen minutes, then we got two
free previews of the new movie. People
believed this and rode all over town
trying to find the tickets. I couldn't believe
anyone was dumb even to think this song would be in any movie!!

Happen to have the lyrics right here --

Her name was Leia
She was a princess
With a danish on each ear
And Darth Vader drawing near

So R2D2 found Ben Kenobi

He'd have to put
the Death Star plans

Into the Rebellion's hands

So Luke and Obi Wan
Had to get to Alderon
So they stopped into Moss Eisley's
To have a drink with Han ...

CHORUS:
At the Star Wars

Star Wars Cantina
The weirdest creatures

You've ever seen-a
(Here) At the Star Wars

Star Wars Cantina
Music and blasters
And old Jedi masters
At the Star Wars ...

His name was Solo
He was a pilot
WIth the blaster at his side
And a smile 12 parsacks wide

There with Chewbacca
He was a Wookie
They met with Luke and Obi Wan
About the Millenium Falcon

Docking at Bay 93
Storm Troopers at the door
With a flash of Ben's light saber
Now there's an arm on the floor

CHORUS

His name was Yoda
He was a muppet
Darth Vader was so bad

And, by the way, he's Luke's dad

Luke kissed his sister
His hand got cut off

In that galaxy far, far away
Luke has had a lousy day

That muppet was so mean
Jaba had bad hygiene

Why didn't they all just relax

Back on Tatouine?

CHORUS

At least this was the first version put out last year. And no, it's not Barry
singing.

Hola From LA,

I have been hearing it on STAR 98.7. One DJ said it was the STAR
Singers who were singing it. I'm sorry, but it sure sounds like Barry
to me or a very good imitation of him. Oh well. It's a cute song and
if it's him singing, more power to him.

I heard the song too, I couldn't get over it.
My daughter says it sure sounds like Barry,
and I have to agree with both of you. If it is him, great. If it isn't, that
is one dead ringer
of a singer.

Pat,

I must disagree with you. I've listened to the song, and the singer
doesn't sound like Barry in the least. IMHO, of course.
