No one knows if one person invented the dartboard,
but it probably originated from circles on a tree, then
having people trying to throw sticky things in competition
to see who can get closest to the designated spot.
<
The rules are said to be about twice as complicated
as learning how to play cricket.
<
The person who first came up with the scoring system
to penalize inaccuracy was Brian Gamlin in 1896 who
was struck and killed by a Streetcar Named Desire in
1947.
<
It should be noted that darts is a very dangerous game
and nearsighted people often shoot their eye out.
<
The last person to shoot his eye out because of a bad throw
was Robert Wagner who later portrayed "No. 2" in the Austin
Powers movies. His name is also a slang term for defecation
which has absolutely nothing to do with this posting.

The conventional dartboard remained the same for
113 years -- a few minor changes here and there -- but
in late July 2009, the original bull's-eye was eliminated
and a substitution made by the Smithsonian Institution
in order to make the target larger, more challenging and
more enjoyable for the participants. especially if they
have various letters of Alphabet Soup like a tail behind
their names.
