MALACHI MARTIN: ANOTHER ART BELL FRAUD

Malachi Martin is a frequent guest on the Art Bell program. Apparently,
no one connected with Art Bell has ever bothered to check on Martin's
credentials. Bell has repeatedly introduced him as a Catholic priest.
However, Martin was dispensed from the Catholic priesthood in 1965, and
has had NO formal connection to the Catholic Church since then.
Nevertheless, Martin likes to portray himself as some sort of Vatican
insider, since this helps to sell his potboiler books about alleged
conspiracies in high places in the Vatican. The fact that Malachi
Martin is not a priest is not news. It has previously been in print,
since he is a prolific author. Furthermore, in any event, it is
extremely easy to verify whether someone is a priest or not. Yet, Art
Bell is evidently clueless regarding the fact that Martin has not been
a priest for over 30 years! Notwithstanding this, I cannot fault Art
Bell entirely. Martin is a can be very smooth and enchanting talker,
and he has NEVER ONCE corrected Bell when he has referred to him as "Fr.
Martin". Unfortunately, Malachi Martin is simply one more name on the
apparently endless list of fakes, phonies and frauds on the Art Bell
show. I guess Art sees no need to have a "fact checker" on his staff.

I saw the info about Malachi Martin in a Catholic magazine called "This
Rock" a couple of months ago. The article didn't say whether he had
resigned or was removed from the priesthood, but the magazine might
know. They have a website at http//:www.catholic.com which includes a
Question & Answer space. Anyone who is really curious can post a
question to them, I suppose. -- JG

If, in fact, he was kicked out of the Church, that would not
necessarily invalidate his insights into what went on there while he
did have access. Perhaps he was bounced because he DID know more than
he should have, and was not prudent about telling about it.

I agree completely. Martin is one of those people who seems to tell a decent
story, but if he isn't even a "Father Martin," then he is in the same
category as any of those people who call themselves "Doctor" on Art's
show.

I don't know whether he was thrown out of the Church or retired, but his
credentials seem solid when you do an author search in an academic
library's catalog:

University libraries don't tend to acquire vanity press drivel. The books
by Martin that I've seen are scholarly. He's no fraud. In fact, I
am always dumfounded as to WHY he does the Art Bell Show! He adds a touch
of class not expected in the format.

If he's not a Catholic priest, he's a fraud. If he were not a fraud,
why would he ever appear on the SwellCast?
Art has him on because he likes the exorcism gig. It tittilates the

I looked him up on Yahoo Search. There are many articles about his life
and the books he has written. He is a fascinating character and very
interesting to listen to. Whether he is still a Priest or not, is
unimportant, to me anyway.
