I have a suggestion for Ana's homepage. I would like to see a list of her
top ten albums of all time, and if possible a list of her current favourite
songs (once a month or so). Anyone agree/disagree?
What do you think Ana?
Just bought your album (really hard to find it here in Sweden), and I'm
curious about what your influences might be.The album is great btw. I really
like "Please God" - great lyrics!
All the best,
Håkan
PS. If you have a hard time finding Ana's album, try this www.skivhugget.se

I just have to give you my personal list, like you said, as it is right now
(in no particular order):
Pink Floyd: "The dark side of the moon"
Pink Floyd: "Wish you were here"
Bruce Springsteen: "The river"
Kate Bush: "Hounds of love"
The Only Ones: "Even serpents shine"
Eva Dahlgren: "En blekt blondins hjärta" (swedish album, the title is
directly translated "The heart of a bleached blonde")
Rickie Lee Jones: "Rickie Lee Jones" (her first album, and all of the rest,
she is truly amasing. Saw her live once -- and wow, that woman is something
else. I mean the way she sings!!!!)
Blondie: "Parallell lines"
The The: "Infected"
David Bowie: "Scary monsters"
Rush: "Moving pictures"
Linda Perry: "In flight"
10cc: "Sheet music"
Ok, more than ten. But they are my favourite albums right now (21:47:01 Oct
29).
I like and have most of the albums you mentioned. I too like the Stranglers
but I think Rattus Norvegicus is their best.
And even though she's not on my list right now, you should listen to Tanita
Tikaram: Lovers in the city. I think you'll like it.
Take care
/Håkan

Both of you listed this one. I thought I was the only KB fan around.
Check out "The Kick Inside" too.

NPR reviewed this, and gave it highest marks.
It's on my wish list.
> >the pixies, the breeders
Absolutely.

Aha! I knew there had to be at least one other OP fan out there.
(Although I prefer the second album by a very small margin.)

<snips ana's list>
here's my list (keep in mind that I am still quite young [18 next week]
so my tastes are still quite immature and undeveloped, gimme time)
1. Blind Melon - Blind Melon (I'll love them forever and a year)
2. Headstones - Picture of Health
3. Ballroom Zombies - JoJo
4. Bif Naked - Bif Naked
5. The Cure - Staring At The Sea
6. Orbital - In Sides
7. Stabbing Westward - Ungod (best album they've ever put out)
8. Korn - Korn (Loved 'em since '94, please don't think I'm a trendy
bopper)
9. David Bowie - Best Of David Bowie 1974-79
And there's a tie for number 10:
~ Iggy Pop - Blah Blah Blah
~ Fun Lovin' Criminals - Come Find Yourself
Like I said, gimme time, I'll come around and get some taste =)

Awwww...don't apologize for your musical taste. something like that is totally
subjective.
And on that note:
(in no particular order)

*misfits: american psycho

a.k.a The Artist Formerly Known As DroghedaGC
1. "Rag Doll" by the Four Seasons - Not to be confused with in any way with
the Aerosmith song of the same name.
2. "Angie" by the Rolling Stones - The best single from their peak in the
early seventies. And I don't even want to hear about anything that came
after this.
3. "You Were Meant for Me" by Jewel - I haven't really been sucked in by
too many songs this decade to want to turn them up and sing along like an
idiot. It conveys emotion and feeling that is absent 98.7% of the time in
Top 40 today.
4. "More Today Then Yesterday" by Spiral Starecase - Sometimes an act can
only come up with one great song. Great brass arrangement too.
5. "Baby Blue" by Badfinger - Their last big hit. Best remembered now for
the cult classic album Ass and being the one of the few really big acts on
Apple records. Now here's a band that needs a tribute disc.
6. "My Maria" by B.W. Stevenson - Another one hit wonder. Had his thunder
with "Shambala" stolen by Three Dog Night before his moment in the sun. He
could have been so much more but for some reason it wasn't to be.
7. "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana - Over examined by needle head rock
critics and non-fans...and still the song to beat for anthem of the 90s.
This song is never going to die.
8. "Devil with a Blue Dress On & Good Golly Miss Molly" by Mitch Ryder and
the Detroit Wheels - White blue eyed soul with the lid ripped off. In my
mind its the ultimate party record.
9. "December 1963 (Oh What a Night)" by Four Seasons - Not the remix which
was hit a few years ago. This was the kind of mature song that could have
shepparded them through the late 60s and early 70s if they had been more on
the ball.
10. "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" by Marvin Gaye & Tami Terrell, "Just
What I Need" by the Cars, and "Cupid" by Sam Cooke - I couldn't make an
absolute final top ten...and these are three I couldn't decide among. I
never was good at keeping things within their limits.
anyway....some misc. stuff....
Favourite Album - Billy Joel's An Innocent Man
Favourite Indie Single - "She Won't Get Under Me (Until I Get Over You)" by
?????
Favourite Performers - Eric Clapton(well...until that new cd anyway.),
Bjork, and Nirvana.
Favourites This Year - "Ghetto Superstar" by Pras(single) and When I Was
Born for the 7th Time by Cornershop(album).
Favourite Gulity Pleasure - Bubblegum songs from the 70s like Andy Kim's
"Rock Me Gently" to name one.
ciao,

A joke? Liz Phair and Laurie Anderson being better than Björk certainly
was a good one.

You are absolutely right, and I stand corrected.
I get _so_ judgemental sometimes.

Great list, Ana. I just picked up "Music for Films" on
CD last night; your post reminded me that I'd been meaning to for
quite some time (have it on vinyl, but I hate to admit that the
turntable doesn't get used too much anymore).
> and i must say , too:
> the stranglers "feline"
Woo hoo! The Stranglers! :-)
> ultravox "vienna"
By all means. This one was a mainstay when I was in college; just
about wore out an LP of it. I just discovered that it, along with
most of Ultravox's recorded output, was never released in the US
on CD! What gives? Of course, now I'll have to grab a copy of the
import CD.
> wire "504" and "chairs missing"
What, no "Pink Flag"?
> fripp and eno "no pussyfooting"
To which I'd add "Evening Star", most of King Crimson's output,
and, at the top of the heap for me, Eno's "Another Green World",
possibly the most perfect album ever recorded.
> pink floyd "a saucerful of secrets" "more" "meddle" "wish you were here"
"Wish You Were Here" is my favorite Floyd...timeless stuff, and
one of the rare records that you can listen to at different times
in your life and hear completely different things, if you know
what I mean.
> i know there's a lot more...
Hey, we're just scratching the surface here. Quite an interesting
thread...
Dave
Have you heard the Bruce Springsteen & The E-Street Band version of Devil
with a blue dress? It's on the "No Nukes" triple vinyl album. It's a
knockout!!! Get it if you can!
