2,000 Undress for Photographer in Montreal [...but we'd only fight]

MONTREAL (Reuters) - More than 2,000 people posed naked in
downtown Montreal for an American artist staging a nude group
photo shoot authorized by local authorities. New York-based
Spencer Tunick, who specializes in taking shots of nude crowds
in urban centers, had expected no more than 300 people to answer
his call for volunteers for photographs that will be featured
next month at Montreal's Museum of Contemporary Arts.

[He _specializes_ in taking shots of nude crowds? Does he have
a day job? Why do I get the feeling there's some sort of
government grant behind this?]

"This was the easiest performance of this scale that I have
done," an ecstatic Tunick told a large group of reporters
Saturday outside the city's Place des Arts, where the unclothed
participants lay on the ground to be photographed in 55-degree
weather. The 50-minute session was supervised by police, who
set up a security perimeter to keep curious clothed bystanders
at a distance. Tunick said he had had problems with a recent
nude photo shoot in New York, which, he said, Mayor Rudolph
Giuliani had described as indecent.

"Here people just listened, they cared about my work and
wanted to be a part of something original."

[It's original no matter how many times he photographs large
crowds of naked people. That's his specialty, you know. It's
like those people that paint bowls of fruit--hey, this one
has a lemon! It's not like the one with 3 oranges--it has a
lemon. It's original. ;-) ]

Tunick, 34, has conducted similar group photo sessions in
cities such as San Francisco, London and Jerusalem and
displayed his works around the world. "I use the body as a
shape. It's using the body as an art object, not a sex
object," he said.

[Yep. He's a noble one alright. Clearly I'm far too
unsophisticated to appreciate his work. I wonder
if he grew up listening to Queen?]

Strippers Take It Off to Help Town [Have you never noticed
that we're dancing, dancing...]

SPARTA, Ky. (Reuters) - Strippers are taking it off in the
Kentucky community of Sparta to help buy a new fire engine
and a bulletproof vest for its lone police dog, town
officials said on Thursday. The striptease dancers at Racers
Nightclub in Sparta have raised roughly $300 in donations on
consecutive weekends to be put toward the cost of a $180,000
fire truck and a dog vest.

[These must be the ugliest strippers in the world. I've been
told by various sources (don't ask) that a single dancer at
Night Trips can walk out with that amount on an average
evening. What's wrong with these girls?]

Town clerk Jayne Smith said she believed the community of
around 130 people southwest of Cincinnati, Ohio, had no
qualms about accepting the strippers' contributions. She
noted a nearby auto racing track that draws 80,000 fans on
race day produced no tax revenue for Sparta.

Mike Raportella, who manages the club owned by the town's
unpaid city attorney, said the money was collected by
uniformed firefighters following each benefit performance.

[My favorite part was the clarification that these were
"uniformed" firefighters]

"To get with the spirit of the contributions, one of our
dancers starts out her routine dressed up like a firefighter
with a helmet and other accessories," Raportella said.

[Other accessories?]

"As long as we can help out the town, we'll keep staging
these dances," Raportella said. "Sparta sure needs the new
fire engine. The old one was pretty run down."

[How dedicated. At this rate they need do only 598 more :-) ]

Brazil Activists Drop Their Pants in Protests [I am the sun,
you are the... / There might be a prize at the bottom]

BRASILIA, Brazil (Reuters) - Brazilian students protesting
sleaze in politics have decided that their bare bottoms makes
the point best. Demonstrators started the latest trend of
clearly showing corrupt legislators what they think of them
during a wave of protests outside Congress this week by lining
up and dropping their pants together.

"It's no big deal," said one of the protesters who thought
mooning was the best way to get the point across. "I just
wanted to protest against all the sleaze going on in Brazil's
politics."

A wave of corruption allegations has battered the government
in recent months. Brazil's mostly pacific political activists
have a long history of creative protest such as painting
their faces with the colors of the Brazilian flag in imitation
of the war paint used by the country's native Indians.

I wouldn't have thought Montreal would be such a popular place for people
to get naked outdoors. Not quite yet anyway. I think I'd still want my
sweater.

To tell you the truth I thought some of his photos were kind of interesting.
He uses the naked people to add a surreal aspect to the scene. He doesn't
seem to be interested in erotica as much as human vulnerability. The people
aren't the focus of the work, they are an element of a scene. He's supposed
to be starting a world tour to "photograph people from all walks of life as
he travels continent to continent" for his nude adrift project.

Or like that guy who photographs weimeraners maybe. Same dogs, different
settings.

It sounds a bit more bizarre than it actually turns out appearing. At least
to me, but then I am rather fond of Queen.
Perhaps it's the Body Language.

They should have a little better turnout on race weekends. We made a couple
of thousand bucks a day working at the Nascar races, and we were only
selling hot dogs and drinks, and we kept most of our clothes on.

Maybe I'm confused, but protesting too much sleaze with a sleazy act may be
the height of sarcasm, but it does just add to the problem. The face
painting is classier, but I suppose not as good at getting attention. Maybe
if they painted...never mind.

Why don't you make a website, or a newsletter about your newdist subject you
seem to like to talk about so much. I don't think you should put it on the
Admiral Twin board. It seems to me that you should post it on a nudist board.
I came on here to read and write about Admiral Twin.

In New Jersey one summer day I saw a sign that read: "She's back fellas.
Thunder the 425 LB. dancer". The sign was for John's Gentlemen Club.
That might be an ugly stripper.

Hey there, I see you posting a lot here very recently, but I don't remember
seeing you here before.

Lots of stuff is discussed on here that has little to do with Admiral Twin,
although we can usually turn it around to relate in some way if we really try.
lol

Um, the people here are usually all really nice, mostly funny and friendly...
it's a fun place to hang out.

Why don't you try reading it for a bit to see what all is talked about - before
you start making a lot of suggestions about what people should talk about or
where they should post, etc. Just a suggestion.

Laura :D <--- just trying to be helpful

No, "purpose" is the name of a computer. He carefully searches
for these articles on every computer *except* "purpose".

So, Dallas, what do you think of his pictures? You know, the
ones you SAW before poking fun at his work. I mean, surely you'd
never make any subjective comments about an artist or artistic
work you had not seen first-hand, would you? :) :)

If I get a chance to see some of his photos, I'll think about
posting my opinions of them. But, until then, uh, well, you get
my point...

Did I mention I was in Vegas over the weekend, and spent the
afternoon leaving Las Vegas? :)

To be fair to the strippers, the very article you posted went on
to explain that the donations are collected by uniformed
firefighters afer the performance. I'm guessing that tends to
put a damper on the patrons' hormone-fuelled generosity. It's
also not clear if the dancers keep any tips made during their
acts.

OK, we may have another important clue here. This community only
has 130 people. So I'd say $300 is a pretty fantastic
contribution level.

Probably the "Jaws of Life" aren't on the list.

Yeah, but did you incorporate firefighter accessories into your
acts?

Well, I think these are different kinds of sleaze. If they
protested by accepting bribes and stuffing ballot boxes, or if
they were protesting nudity on television, for example, I'd agree
with your point.

What? Firefighters?

No, but we did incorporate drummers into our "act".
We were fund raising for the h.s. band. There are many nifty accessories we
could work with.

(BTW, in a town of 130 people, does the police dog really need a bulletproof
vest? What kind of town is this?)

True it is not a direct correlation, but if you want to raise the general
atmosphere to a higher level, it still seems that mooning will not
accomplish much towards refinement.

Well, it's Brazil. How about bullfighters?

Linda - all things considered, I'd rather be mooned.
