You would probably see this more with males then females. But there
have been a lot of attempts to get someone young and pretty over as
the next Hollywood leading man or lady.

You see them headline films at the start of their career, then they go
down to support roles, and then minor, and then straight to DVD
dreck.

It maybe to due lack of talent, or they just did not click. So what
are some attempts?

I won't give you that one - Ringwald clicked just fine, but got out of
control and self destructed her own career.

Howard clicked just fine too, but preferred to direct.

Howard's a great success as a director, his chosen path.
Wahlberg has had far more success in Hollywood than he deserves.
Applegate has had considerable success on TV.
Alyssa Milano has been a hot piece of ass since she was a teen
actress. She's had a nice run and is now happily married.
The others? Good call.

She had one thing going for her and lost it at about age 22. Not much
talent, indeed, but one of the most exceptional bodies in film history.

>Betsy Russell
>Molly Ringwald

Molly Ringwald was a huge star. Unfortunately for her, she couldn't
transition out of teenage angst comedy.

>Ally Sheedy

Same as Ringwald. Hollywood has a need for a constant inflow of teenage
talent. People like Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy "clicked" extremely
well, they just couldn't make the transition to older roles.

>Alicia Silverstone
>Alyssa Milano
>Topher Grace

I'll give you all three of those, especially Silverstone

>Ron Howard
>Mark Wahlberg

No way. Wahlberg is one of the most in-demand actors in Hollywood. Opie
probably could have made it as a straight actor -- hell, he can get his
daughter roles, he has so much clout -- but became an iconic
director/producer -- why would he *want* to act?

Mena Suvari comes immediately to mind. She got a lot of topspin out of
American Beauty (tag line -- "Better than The Actor") and then -- poof.

On the television front, I'd have to say Eliza Dushku. She got an open
production deal from Fox, even.

Lindsey Lohan and Kristen Stewart, both of whom made great movies as
kids/teenagers. Lohan might have had the talent to make it; Stewart has
less talent but then, even she isn't as big a mess as Lohan -- yet. Sean
Young would be another self-inflicted injury.

LOL on the daughter ... I have *no* idea why anybody is impressed with
her, or what the hell they thought they were doing casting her as Gwen
Stacy.

I just toldja' why!!1!

Actually, I'm under the impression that you hate M. Night Shyamalan, but
she did okay in the movies she did with him. Which I guess means you just
have another reason to hate her.

She really isn't a *terrible* actress. I'll take her over Tori Spelling
any day. :)

I have a grudge against her because the Twilight people fired Rachelle
Lefevre so that Bryce could take the part.

I don't think I've ever seen anything by MNS. I usually check out Bruce
Willis movies, but after the trailer for Sixth Sense, my viewing
accomplice said 'guess the surprise ending' and I immediately replied
'Bruce Willis is dead' and he say 'and now you don't have to see that
crappy movie'

Oh, I don't know ... have you SEEN "Mother, May I Sleep With Danger?"

But the Twilight movies are right where Bryce BELONGS - in a franchise I
don't watch.

Okay. I feel a lot better about mentioning the Shyamalan movies now.

She really isn't a terrible actress, despite having three names (two of
which are superfluous). It was just a slap in the face to Lefevre, who I
like.

I think you mean those that have already had some kind of success, most
likely on television or have been in a hit movie, then they try to take
this further. I thought this is how the American movie industry works.

The whole point of the article seems a bit stupid really. Some might
have a short run as big stars, then everyone wises up as to how little
potential they have. In the 20s actresses usually had to be very young
before the prime of their careers ran out.
It's wrong about Nicole Kidman, her break out role was for Dead Calm.
It's curious from the Australian perspective wondering which TV star is
going to make it in Hollywood, as happened with Eric Bana and Chris
Hemsworth, but not as much for Ryan Kwanton. A show like Home and Away
almost seems as if it is fostering future big stars.

It's not a question of getting out; it's whether one gets into
theaters where the guy's films are playing.
