convinces me he's mean. He's good in "Bull Durham", "Cadillac Man" and "Jacob's
Ladder" but "Hudsucker Proxy" is probably my favorite.

"Erik the Viking" was disappointing, especially for a Monty Python-related
movie. I've never seen "Howard the Duck." I guess every actor is entitled to
one howard-the-duck in his career.
My favorite Tim Robbins movie way ahead of all the rest is "Jacob's Ladder."
I'd like to see him work again with Susan Sarandon in front of the cameras.

I thought that he was no worse than anyone else in "Howard the Duck" - although Jeffrey Jones tries
hard in yet another of his embarrassingly bad comedies.
His performance in "The Player" is very good, and he manages to keep "Jacob's Ladder" from
spiralling up its own arse.

Tim Robbings was great in Hudsucker, extremely funny.

I'm a huge Coen Brothers fan.
Cage is playing someone who's confused by his own impulse to "do the
right thing" and the competing pressures of the various influences in
his life in Raising Arizona, and it doesn't help matters that Hy isn't
the brightest candle on the abra. Jeff Bridges is playing a lifelong
stoner. Which means he's killed a lot of brain cells, but the ones he
has are still working.
I do, however, believe that The Hudsucker Proxy is the one genuine
misfire in the Coens' filmography, a film miscast, misconceived and
painful to watch. (I expanded on this at much greater length in a
career overview on the Coens I wrote for Sight and Sound back when
Hudsucker opened in England.)
I think people look at Tim Robbins and see a big open faced innocent
looking guy, but casting him that way is a mistake -- he has a much
better line in cold-hearted, manipulative bastards, as Altman was
quick to recognize in casting him in The Player and Short Cuts.

That's too bad you did't appreciate it. The humour was very subtle
and Tim Roberts pulled it off perfectly (IMO) -- not an easy thing to
do at all.

Three different attempts to watch this film from start to finish have failed. I thought it was
unconscionably bad. "The Big Lebowski", on the other hand, is one of my favourites of the decade.
Odd how the Coens can do something so wrong and then do something so right.
