My spar has recently taken 2 cock pheasant - which I would never had
believed possible until recently.
Th 1st one she chased after the dog had flushed it, but I thought I saw her
veer off after chasing it along way and then giving up. About 10 mins later
I found her sitting on a warm dead cock pheasant under a hedge. I did not
see her kill it, but can only assume that she did so - or how else did she
end up[ sitting on it?
The 2nd one was on Sunday. She intercepted it as it flushed from beneath
her, some yards away - she was about 20 ft up in a tree. She struck it head
on, the pheasant dropped to the ground stunned but then ran around in rather
dazed way - it seemd unable to fly again, until the dog and I caught it. I
killed the pheasant and gave it to the spar who had retreated back into a
tree, probably rather stunned itself.
Does anyone else have any experience or knowledge, of a Spar taking a cock
pheasant? If anyone told me this story, I would assume that they were
hallucinating - but it happened. I would love to hear from anyone with
similar incidents.
Look forward to hearing from someone.

Brilliant story, I love it!
My faather once flew an Ovambo Spar that took duck on a regular basic, but
he has too assist in the dispatching of it, like we all need to with most
birds anyway.

I imprinted a female two years ago and her would hit anything that moved,
seagulls, rooks, crows, pigoens, you name it. While she was with me though
she only caught and held on to anything that was starling and smaller, in
fact she almost never missed the little brown jobs. The guy who has her now
at an Air Force Base just can't stop praising her, and now she takes larger
birds too, upto rook and pigoen.

What weight does she fly at? She does not sound imprinted, because she left
the pheasant and sat in a tree.

Great keep us posted!

She flys at 8 1/4 oz. or just under. She is imprinted - I think that when
she banged into this cock pheasant she was a bit bruised, or shocked, (she
hit it head on with her and the pheasant travelling at full speed - it must
have been quite an impact) and I think that she wondered if it was too big
to handle. I don't know - but she did come down and eat it with me after a
few minutes.
Thanks for replying.
